Hello,

I just wondered if anyone can help me understand the below results.

Is everything ok here or are some things not what they are supposed to be?

Does any one know what clumping++ means?

Semen analysis:
Volume: 5.4 mL [> 1.5]
pH: 7.9 [> 7.2]
Liquefaction: Normal
Count: 54 106/mL [> 15.0]
Total count: 292 106/mL [> 39.0]
Progressive motility (%): 65 % [32.0 - 100.0]
Non-progressive motility (%): 4 %
Non motile (%): 31 %
Normal forms: 8 % [> 4.0]
MAR Test: Negative
Comment:-: Clumping++
Time produced: 9.38
Time examined: 10.30

We've had quite a few analysis done for my husband, so i'll do my best to interpret based on the explanations we've had.

Sample produced was 5.4ml (normal would be above 1.5ml) so, good.

PH is within normal range (up to 9 is normal I think)

It liquified (as it should) normally.

Quantity of sperm was 54 million sperm per ML (normal would be anything above 15 million per ML)

Total number of sperm in his sample was 292 million (normal anything over 39 million)

On my husbands sample "progression" referred to the number or % of sperm swimming in the correct direction, so assuming its the same for yours, 65% are swimming the right way.

Non-progressive meant not swimming the right way/in circles etc so that would be the 4% presumably.

31% non motile. For my husbands this meant dead/not moving.

8% of them were normal shape, size etc (anything above 4% is normal, usually this is called morphology I think)

I'm not sure on what the clumping refers to though, as we've never had that mentioned or on my husbands results before.

Based on the "normal" parameters fertility doctors have given us, all the above looks within the expected ranges.

I've just had a google on the clumping as this is something that's never been mentioned to us before.

I found that clumping can refer to "debris" in the sample, which can sometimes indicate infection or trauma. So I would assume that they've rated the amount of clumping as " + + "

Although without the parameters of how many +++++ they use, it's hard to know whether ++ would be as expected or not. Hopefully it is!

Do you have an appointment to discuss results coming up?

You're welcome. It took us a while to suss out the results initially, but once you know what everything means you'll be whizzing through them if you have any follow ups in future Smile

Fingers crossed for you, hope everything goes well!
