Hi, a couple months ago my partner & I started ttc. Second month we got a BFP, we couldn’t have been happier. I then had an early scan due to a bleed which later turned out to be a chemical pregnancy. We where absolutely heartbroken, I had never ever heard of this! We decided to continue trying, next month we got another BFP, it wasn’t quite the same this time we didn’t feel like we could get quite so excited but still deep down really thought this could be our chance. Few days later the test become fainter & AF then started. I could not be more broken right now, I can’t stop crying & im just terrified that this means we won’t be able to have the family we’ve always dreamed off. I have rang the Dr’s this morning, waiting for a call back. Has anyone experienced similar & found out the cause from the Dr’s? Had treatment or put on medication which has then led to a healthy pregnancy? Would be so greatful to hear anyone else’s stories/advise, I’m feeling really quite lost Confused xxx

Sorry to hear this. I was in a similar situation and I know it can be very disheartening especially as your mind will be racing with what might or might not be wrong

I actually had 4 miscarriages - 2 were chemicals.

Sadly the NHS won't look in to possible causes until you have had 3
In a row and sometimes they don't recognise chemicals - only if scans have confirmed etc. It's very unfair as it hurts all the same.

In the meantime you could ask your GP to test your thyroid as this is quite a common cause of chemicals.

Other things you can do I start taking some supplements. Vit D, Coq10 and a folic acid. Also a high protein and low carb diet regardless of weight can help manage blood sugar levels.

Please remember that quite often chemicals have no cause and it was just a 'duff egg' so to speak. We all have those!

Try to relax and keep going each month - definitely ask to be referred to recurrent miscarriage clinic if you so have another.

I do have a Baby now but can't say what helped. My husband has to have chemo and therefore we had to bank sperm before his treatment started. Once he had the all clear we had IVF and were successful. I did take metformin during IVF but I am slightly overweight and have PCOS so it makes sense that my blood sugar would need to be controlled

Good luck. Please do keep me posted
