High FSH and only 35

Can any ladies help I feel so hopeless right now.

So basically at beginning of year was only looking at my fertility as DP and I had talked about trying soon.

Fast forward some unusual BBT and then have mid cycle bleeding so call docs and get some bloods done. That was last week.

Now starting this week off with the news that I'm in early menopause (I'm only 35) and considering my history this likely started just before I turned 30!

My blood work came back as follows:

FSH - 41.8
LH - 26.5
TSH - 1.2
Testosterone - normal range

They haven't tested oestriadol (sp??) yet.

The lack of experience around me is scary. My mum seems to think it's an iron deficiency. My friends are saying well nothing you can do about nature. And doc is asking me to consider IVF with donor egg. My head is spinning and I feel so alone.

Is this really it for me?

Sorry you’re going through this, it must be a big shock. Have you had an AMH test or follicle scan? That would also give an indication of ovarian reserve.

calamitykay · 08/06/2021 12:42

No not yet. My gp said they can't do that testing. I'm waiting for a referral to see an obgyn specialist but I'm not feeling very hopeful.
As I understand it, a high FSH means very little if any reserve? I think anyway....I'm a little new to all of this x

Hi @calamitykay Do you know how long the wait times are to see the specialist?

I think there’s still a bit of a backlog because of Covid atm so if I were you I’d consider having the AMH and AFC privately. You’d then still be entitled to NHS help but you’d be better informed and know where you stand, especially if time is of the essence.

I really hope it all works out for you.

Thank you for that.

No I haven't been given any times yet. I've only been told that I've been referred as an emergency. I don't know really how to even go about finding a clinic in my area? I'd be happy to pay for tests privately though.

Hi @calamitykay , I'm sorry you're going through this; fertility problems suck. I'd suggest getting an AMH and AFC check as soon as you can - private clinics can do them as well so if there's going to be a delay with the NHS it may be worth looking into private options. The tests themselves are a blood test and an ultrasound, so they don't take long and can give you a clearer idea of what you have to work with.

Given the blood results, I'd look to crack on with treatment as soon as possible to maximise your options. Depending on your AMH, you might want to look into specialist clinics for people with low AMH (there have been some useful posts on this forum). At 35, if you've the option of trying with your own eggs, I'd be inclined to try a round and see what happens before making a decision about donor eggs.

You can find local clinics through searching online or you could look at posts on here for recommendations?
