TTC - Fibroid removal query

Hi,

We have been TTC for the past 18 months. I recently had checks related to infertility. Both the MRI and ultrasound have confirmed the presence of four fibroids. The biggest one measured 54 mm and the second biggest was 32 mm and was abutting the endometrial cavity.

All my other checks including fallopian tube check and blood check results were perfectly normal. And my DH's parameters are also all good.

Consultant suggested assessing and removal of the fibroid which is distorting the cavity. And this will improve the chances of conceiving.

Anyone here have had similar situations, and had success stories after fibroid removal? Is this a right step to take.

Guidance and inputs based on similar situations are much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Hello @amandamarym I have some experience with this. I have a 5mm fibroid, but it is outside of the uterine cavity, so don’t need to have it removed.

I do have 2 polyps in the cavity though and am waiting to get these removed before I can do my FET. My transfer was cancelled as Dr would not perform it whilst the polyps were there. It’s the same principle for fibroids in that if they are in the same area as where the embryo is trying to implant, they are taking up space and blood flow which your embryo needs.

Also, anything over 1cm is considered an issue for fertility, so it sounds like yours do need to come out. It’s so frustrating to have this time delay, but it should improve your chances of success. Hope it works out for you.

@IslandStars - Thank you for your reply. Mine are also outside the cavity, but it is abutting the cavity slightly(means touching/pushing). Hence, consultant thinks it appropriate to be removed in order to help with conceiving.

Thanks again. Wish you all success with your FET.

@amandamarym Thank you. Sounds like the consultant is probably right, the fertility check up is a good way of diagnosing problems, at least the fibroids can be removed then you can start afresh. Mine is very high up away from the cavity, so was never going to impact on the lining.
