Acupuncture is it worth it and what to expect from a zoom session!

A friend recommended acupuncture so I joined the waiting list for a clinic that specialises in infertility and have finally been given an appointment for a few weeks time.

The initial appointment is over zoom and is £85!!!!! I’m not really sure what to expect, how do you do acupuncture over zoom?!? The follow up sessions are £40 - presumably these are in person 🤣 I’m in Leeds BTW.

I’ve been sent a huge questionnaire about my health which she wants me to fill in as apparently she looks at your full health. TBH I’m really struggling not seeing any specialists in person and having personal medical discussions over the phone/internet as it is and I naively assumed you would actually see the acupuncturist. I’m sure she must have done more than just have a discussion in the first session pre-COVID.

Has anyone had an initial acupuncture consultation over zoom? Was it worth it? How was it having the consultation over zoom? Should I just try to defer until she’s seeing patients in person?

I wouldn't pay £85 for a zoom consult!

I did acupuncture for my 5 egg collections and 3 of my 4 FET......

You can guess which was my successful transfer.....with twins by the way.....yup the 4th one which was during lockdown and so wasn't able to do acupuncture

I considered it recently and priced up a few places, none were doing zoom consultations. From what I remember, all of them involved acupuncture in the first session, it’s just that the first one was longer and more expensive, because it also involved a chat beforehand about general health and why you were doing it etc. I’d look for somewhere else if I were you.

I decided against it in the end, as I just don’t have the spare funds and it’s not proven to work, although I know some people find it helps with stress.

I have to say I did find it relaxing

Mine was also a specialist fertility clinic and also
Incorporated some holistic elements

One of which I did try when I got pregnant with my twins - which was basically lying down with both hands on my uterus area and imagining the embryos taking root - so for me I imagined 2 little acorns growing from the soil into oak trees (the hands part helps with keeping warmth in the uterus area)

It worked so could be something could be nothing

I did something similar with YouTube meditation videos. Felt like a relaxing and positive thing to do. And it was free!

I personally wouldn't go for that, OP, but I never tried acupuncture anyway. Unless you have particular faith in this one, I'd look for another.

Good grief, I wouldn't in a million years pay £85 for a zoom acupuncture consultation 😂 I would expect for £85 to have a treatment as well as the initial consultation, which it would obviously need to be face to face for, and even then it sounds a bit steep. You might find acupuncture helpful for stress levels/relaxation but there is no evidence it will aid fertility and I would question the ethics of anyone charging that amount for essentially just a chat. I'd look elsewhere if I were you!
