Traveling for ivf

Hi

We just had our consultation with gcrm and to be honest the cost has really floored us and so we are looking at alternatives but it's looking like we will have to travel to England for a more affordable solution.

The travelling doesn't bother me but I. Just wondering how it works for example they will require to monitor me for OHSS. But not sure how that will work when I'm 300 miles away.

Just looking for other experiences.

Not looking for the backlash of the costs etc.

Did you check the equivalent cost at GRI?

@LouiseTrees ive sent them an email to compare. When I looked online it was significantly cheaper but that was after I looked at abc in Leeds. I've sent a few places an email to check the waiting lists and costs etc. I just need to make sure we're getting value for money as we will likely only have one or 2 attempts at this.

To be honest unless you go with ABC (which can have quite strict acceptance criteria) then the costs will all be very similar plus you'd have to factor in cost of 600mile round trips in fuel and hotel stays so may not actually work out that much cheaper but be a lot more stressful

What cost were you quoted at GCRM

@ivfgottwins that's was I was thinking so I was just wondering if any others had done something similar.

GCRM were quoting £8500 for 1 FET using ICSI, when I check ABC it's saying about £4k which is obviously much more affordable but the travelling could be a major factor.

Looking at the GRI I think they come I. About £5.5k again a bit more affordable.

I think we just need to fully investigate our options over the next few months. If we're going to spend £10-15k we just want to make sure we can optimise our chances if that makes sense. I have PCOS and high AMH so hopefully we would be looking at a decent egg retrieval but OHSS is a concern too. Also recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism which I've started meds for and apparantly they work well with ivf trameatments and aod the implantation process and reduces the chances of miscarriage.

@Ttcforever2021
£8.5k sounds about right including an FET - does that include drugs?

Just thought I'd add, the costs do vary significantly between clinics so I think it is worth shopping around. We paid £5600 for a fresh cycle and transfer (including meds, not including ICSI) in London whilst others on here have paid £13000 for the same.

In terms of practicalities of being far away from your clinic, as pp said, I think it is just the amount and cost of all the travelling. Making sure you're clear on the number of face to face appts you'll need to attend will help you price that up and factor it in I guess? You could ask for as many appts as possible to be done via remote consultation? Most clinics are using this in some format now anyway. Good luck 😊
