Asymptomatic endo & ivf

Could do with some advice! Please...
Been ttc for 2 years and ended up going private. Ended up with male infertility issues. In the meantime thru a hysteroscopy, I've been told I have suspected endo.
Gynaecologist would like to do a lap and maybe remove some endo if she can.
However, we were looking at ivf due to sperm problems anyhow so do I need to be sorting out my endo when I never knew that I had it?
Or will it cause issues with ivf or failure. Or will the lap cause problems to go ahead with ivf? Some many many questions Hmm

For me silent endo was a huge problem for IVF and I only got blastocysts after it was resolved.

If you are fortunate enough to go private, make sure whoever does your surgery has a NHS post as a named BGSE surgeon or works in one of the rare private BGSE centres in London.

Don’t, for example, use your fertility doctor who says they can do laparoscopies. It is a very difficult and technically demanding surgery to do well (the skill set is similar to cancer surgery) and you need to see someone who by and large only treats endometriosis.

How old are you OP? Your age may also help decide whether to have the laparoscopy or not, because I think you are supposed to wait at least 6 months after surgery before you can start IVF - not likely a big deal if you are under 35, but could be more problematic if over 40 (which is why I personally haven't dared have the surgery even though I have some endometriosis symptoms- so am really tempted in case it's damaging my chances of implantation).

From what I've read, I think it's impossible to know how much endo could affect your IVF until they get inside to really see how much/exactly where it is. But the fact that the gynaecologist has confirmed you definitely have it (when scans don't always show it - they haven't for me), means I would consider the laparoscopy if time is on your side.

Hi, yep I'm 34. It's a bit of an odd one as I'm waiting for hubby progress too. He had a varicocele and had an op in jan so he has to wait 6 months to see how sperm is. So suppose a few more months isn't too bad. I don't want to wait but hey ho.
Never knew I had endo so feels like another blocker!
Spoke to my fertility doctor yesterday and he says it's worth me having the lap so going ahead to see where it is and maybe get rid of some. @Porridgeislife gynaecologist did mention about the endo centres as if it's advanced then I would need to see a specialised team.

Hi, indeed most of the time fertility docs don’t suggest surgery as it can damage ovaries and diminish egg reserve. I wonder why yours suggest it given that you don’t have it to the extent to give you symptoms? I think endo is mostly overcome by IVF and it seems you probably don’t have big cysts in your ovaries as otherwise they’d be seen in ultrasound.

@jolly86 Yeah don't think it's on my ovaries from what I've been told. I think they mentioned pouch of Douglas? Apparently I have a blue legion and it's nodular. According to fertility guy, he said it can improve pregnancy rate. But then again, the gynaecologist may just do this lap for diagnostics only. Sometimes you dunno if you are doing right. It's a pity we have severe mfi too as I don't honestly know if my endo was or is a problem to conceive Confused
