Help interpreting these SA results

My fiancé and I have gone through NHS fertility testing because I have a short LP and didn't really get anywhere (am now seeing a private doctor) but they did do an SA. Our GP told us the results were normal but I'm confused about motility.

Fast progressive motility is 24% and slow progressive is 11%. Combined this is 35%. The reference range is above 32%, but is this combined or for each aspect?

The report says everything in normal range, but I arranged to see a private doctor for a second opinion and he said motility was slow - it was 24% and should be 32%. I think the doctor might be reading the report wrong, as it's from a lab he does not use and I don't think all SAs differentiate between fast and slow progressive motility?

In general I think this report is okay? Maybe not the best, but perfectly capable of conception. The doctor recommended my fiancé start on Proxeed Plus which he is (and better be amazing given the price) and he's also going to start icing his testicles once a day. He hasn't had a hot bath in six months. Hopefully this gives his sperm a bit of a boost.

@kennetrose

These are the normal ranges from gp notebook:

semen volume: 1.5 ml or more
pH: 7.2 or more
sperm concentration: 15 million spermatozoa per ml or more total
sperm number: 39 million spermatozoa per ejaculate or more
total motility (percentage of progressive motility and non-progressive motility): 40% or more motile or 32% or more with progressive motility
vitality: 58% or more
live spermatozoa sperm morphology (percentage of normal forms): 4% or more

So I think your specialist is right that your Gp wasn’t clear about the combined progressive and non-progressive motility.

Something worth noting is that the volume and number of sperm are much greater than the normal range and that means that while the percentage might be low, it could still be a good sperm sample.

When I had my fresh cycle the embryologist processed the sperm before adding it to the eggs, so with IVF they can overcome some sperm issues.

Thanks @Gardenlady543!

I'm still unclear about motility. Our form references fast and slow motility, but both are progressive. Have we just got an unusually detailed report that distinguishes fast and slow? Should fast progressive be 32% or combined progressive? Slow progressive are still moving in the right direction...

Hi, often SA's don't distinguish between fast progressive and slow progressive, they just say progressively motile. Overall progressive has to be 32 and total motile (progressive and non progressive) has to be 40. Your results look perfect, I can't see any problem.
