Does IUI produce more boys?

Total anecdata...

I've told a few friends I'm undergoing IUI treatment and everyone has said that IUI strongly favours boys (probably based on the shettle theory of boys sperm swimming faster)

Utter tosh or do they have a point? Same with IVF? All my IVF friends have had boys...

As far as I’m aware IVF has maybe 0.5% more males than female.

I guess with IUI there could theoretically be more males than females.

But it likely balances out pretty closely.

I don't think that IUI as same principle as normal conception. I have heard that IVF favours boys a tiny bit as male eggs tend to develop better early on so more likely to be transferred

Interesting! I'm not bothered either way. I'm currently talking to a friend in the US undergoing IVF and assuming embryos are equally as healthy - they get to choose the sex if the child. I've got mixed feelings on that!

Oh wow! Does that mean in the uk the embryologist knows the sex of the embryo but just doesn't tell us or would they need to do a specific test. I guess the latter?!

I don't know about IUI but the only 3 ivf babies (well one is a teen!) I know are girls.

@seven201 when they do PGT-A they know if embryos are male or female, but it’s illegal for them to tell patients unless there is a sex-linked genetic disease.

I had a successful IUI and wondered the same thing. All through my pregnancy I thought it would be a boy (we didn't find out the sex) and I was right!

Oh and good luck for your IUI! X

That makes sense, thank you!

Yes it's crazy isn't it that they know and can't tell us!! So exciting.

Thanks for the luck I've been wished!
