Hiya, due to start our second FET cycle soon. I have a question about down regulating - previously have taken the pill before fresh cycle and first FET, but was thinking about doing a prostap jab this time. I’ve just been reading up on the side effects though which have made me a bit worried. I’d be really grateful to hear from people who’ve had it. Is it as bad as it sounds? Wondering if I should just stick to the pill.

I have just had my first prostap injection a week ago. I suffer with the most debilitating leg cramps which they think MAY be related to PMDD. That’s my main symptoms , leg cramps which are debilitating and fatigue . After the injection it has exasperated my symptoms a hundred times over and I haven’t got out of bed for a week. I feel like my legs are going to burst. I have a constant headache and pains all over my body. Apparently symptoms get worse before better but someone PLEASE reassure me I am not stuck with this pain for 3 months ?!!! Will it really settle ?

Hey ☺️ a little different and not for FET cycle but I was on a long course of prostap to put me in a menopausal state after endometriosis removal and before ivf to shut down ovaries/calm inflammation. I promise it is not as bad as it sounds. From my own experience I found I did have a lot of hot flushes particularly in situations where for example if I were needing to talk to a group/meeting I'd feel myself flushing - I guess naturally when you're nervous you get a bit het up but that's when I felt I had them the most. I did have them at night but again it wasn't a problem. I found that as long as I drank a lot of water it suppressed most of my side effects. I was on prostap for 6 months and was just fine, hope that helps x

I’ve had prostap twice now and honestly it’s pretty much fine. I have had different side effects both times but it’s not been unbearable at all. First time I had fatigue, decreased appetite, hot flushes and palpitations. Second time I’ve been eating like a horse and no palpitations or fatigue at all. I’ve only had headaches which were quite bad for two weeks but then eased and some hot flushes at night time only.

Hope it goes ok for you!

@bluemeadowbaby Hello!
Sorry to piggy back onto this thread, but my Dr just recommended I go onto ProStap for 3 months. I had endometriomas removed from both ovaries last week (and a tube). Curious as to if you thought this was the right decision?
We've been TTC for 3.5 years and husband is against chemical interference, but I just want the endo gone!
Any advice and thoughts would be welcome x

@LifeOfRiley63 sending big hugs and lots of love! 💕 if I'm completely honest I had no idea what I thought at the time was right to do, I was just the same as you and wanted the endo gone. It was 100% the right decision for me though, it halted my endo growth (cysts stopped growing on ovaries and with the next lap for tube removal there was no further endo growth 💪🏼) also when I did come off the prostap my period was amazing! No pain no nothing just normal it was bliss - if you can call a period bliss 😂
I quickly moved onto ivf and had back to back ivf which I did get pregnant from and again cysts which developed during ivf had disappeared by 20 week scan so they're quite confident my endo is at bay.
I'm due to go for a scan on Wednesday to start a new FET cycle so we will see what my body's up to.
But overall yes, it was definitely the best thing for me. I too am very anti chemical interference but if it stops pain and growth I will do whatever the gynae suggests x

@BlueMeadowBaby Thank you so much for your reply. I've been trying to do as much research as I can, most just say it gives you night sweats and hot flushes. Which sounds like an early summer to me!
Thank you for sharing, I really appreciate it x

Bluemeadowbaby · 04/05/2021 14:49

@LifeOfRiley63 haha yup that's the one 😄 lots of water kept me from flushing too much but I'd rather a flush than pain any day 😄 good luck with it all x

Hi @LifeOfRiley63 I’m just wondering how you got on with coming off Prostap and TTC? 🌺

CR7 · 05/08/2023 11:19

I had Prostap and no side effects x

How long did it take before your periods returned?

LifeOfRiley63 · 05/08/2023 16:11

Hi @Brewskii ! 2 years ago now but if memory serves, I had 3 x injections (one each month for 3 months) and my periods were like clockwork, every 30 days. But once the prostap stopped, I think my first "natural" period was maybe 72 days. But every one is different. I didn't have many side effects but I do remember night sweats. Not the worst!
I just had my 2nd lap last month, sadly all the endo came back. My Dr said no prostap this time as we are still trying to conceive.

CR7 · 05/08/2023 17:39

@Brewskii I took it before a round of medicated ivf so it wasn't a true picture. Normally I would take busereline but it wasn't in stock

I have a question on administering prostap. I’ve been instructed to take one injection (3.75 intramuscular) prior to commencing meditation for an (egg donation) embryo transfer. I am receiving treatment at a clinic in Spain. We live in London. The clinic insisted that a medical person gives me the injection but I am unable to find a nurse or doctor here in London to do this. They advise that because they are not treating me they are unable to administer the injection.

I’ve always administered my own injections when going through IVF and FET, in total we’ve done 7 rounds (here in the UK). Although the injections involved were subcutaneous, not intramuscular.

I wonder if this is just a Spanish requirement but I can in fact administer the injection myself.

Any guidance would be great. Thank you
