Hello!
I was wondering if you drink coffee while TTC or after you get a BFP. I had 3 chemical pregnancies and drink a bit of coffee everyday. Idk but could coffee be a problem?
thanks

@ForestLullaby I’m sorry to hear about your experience Flowers when people are having fertility treatment they recommend cutting down/stopping caffeine. You say you only drink a small amount of coffee, so I’d say it’s very unlikely that it’s associated.

How old are you? How long have you been ttc? and have you had any investigations to look into things further?

ivfbeenbusy · 09/04/2021 11:22

Highly unlikely to be related - I've had several miscarriages - didn't matter whether I drank coffee or not x

thank you both!
I am 33. I have been trying 12 months and had 3 chemicals.
I am going to the doctor on 10 days so I hope they do tests. I am going to beg for them

@ForestLullaby further investigations should be offered after 12 months of TTC so hopefully your GP will have a look into things for you. I turned 35 while I was trying and my GP let me have tests when I saw him after 9 months.

Folklore9074 · 09/04/2021 16:58

Insist on the tests. The small amount of coffee you are having each day probably isn't the issue.

FWIW I cut it out completely when TTC got really serious and then later around egg collection and transfer. I was also advised to not drink any caffeine during the two week wait and before 12 weeks, although they do say on the NHS website that a small amount each day shouldn't be a problem.

Good luck.

thank you @Folklore9074. I am going to insist on the test. Last time I was there they said the "just keep on trying", only to have one more chemical pregnancy. I know I have chemicals, but they still hurt when I have been trying for 12 months and wonder what is wrong with me.
@Gardenlady543 Did you also have chemicals? Did your testing help?

@ForestLullaby No chemicals, never had a BFP Sad, we tried for 12 month naturally, had the initial tests, blood tests were all normal, DH sorry looks good and I have a good ovarian reserve. I had thin lining on my scan but it was missed initially. We had an unsuccessful fresh and frozen IVF transfer, I’m having more investigations at the moment for recurrent implantation failure.

ForestLullaby · 09/04/2021 18:50

@Gardenlady543 I want to give you a hug (not so Corona friendly) but I want to. I guess we both are in the same page, 12 months for us. I am sending you all my love so you will soon get that BFP. It has to happen for us at some point. I have my dark days of "I will never be a mum" and my "It will happen at some point". I am forcing myself to do something fun everyday, like watch a netflix show. I am really nervous as I am going back to the doctor and I hope she takes me seriously this time and run some tests. I hope you too are doing something that makes you happy everyday

Thanks @ForestLullaby Flowers it’s good that the embryos are implanting in you, so much has to happen just to get to this point. I hope they can get to the bottom of the issue for what’s going on. I suspect that some of the tests they consider in people with recurrent chemicals/miscarriages are similar to some of the tests I’ve had. I had a thrombophiia screen to look at whether I’m susceptible to clot and autoantibodies recently. Only things that were picked up were a mutation affecting folic acid metabolism which is quite common I just take methylfolate rather than folic acid and 1 abnormal gene which means they’ll put me on heparin in the future.

I have those lows too and I feel so sad at these times, I’ll be tearful and lie awake at night thinking about what like might be like without children, but it’s usually fleeting. So many people on these forums have tried for many years and had multiple IVF cycles before getting there, so there’s hope Smile. I agree, doing little things you enjoy is so helpful.

You are way ahead! So nice you did those tests because then you know where to work from. You have a plan of "attack". I read some women who take baby aspirin for the thrombo (americans). I live in Sweden. Here they dont give you much medicine. We will see what happens on my next visit to the doctor. Sending you baby dust! A lot of it! :)

@ForestLullaby Oh you’re in Sweden! I hope they have a similar approach to the UK for all this. I’ve been put on aspirin as well. So much of this journey is trial and error!

ForestLullaby · 10/04/2021 07:47

I see. I was thinking they do test, find the cause and you are cured! but I guess is more like you say: trial and error and see if something works. Yes! Let´s see what they do in Sweden! I cannot wait for 19th april when I go to the doctor :)
