Partial molar pregnancy

Hello ladies

I had a missed miscarriage recently that was a suspected partial mole and this has now been confirmed by histology. I'm being referred to Charring Cross for monitoring and was wondering if others on here have had a similar experience? How long did it take for your HCG levels to drop and to get the all clear to try to get pregnant again? I'm a bit horrified at the prospect of having to maybe wait for up to a year.

This is also my third missed miscarriage although I have had a child before this one. From what I've read molar and partial molar pregnancies are completely random. Is this just bad luck? Or something I should be thinking about in the context of the other miscarriages?

Any insights gratefully received!

@MilkyWay123 I’m in the same position as you, my son is 4, I’ve had 3 miscarriages in the last 10 months and the last one which was a mmc in March has just been confirmed as partial molar today.
I’m a bit annoyed it’s taken over 4 weeks to find this out.
Anyway the consultant I spoke to today is treating the issues separately, so I’ll be referred and monitored for the molar pregnancy at Sheffield and once my levels are zero I’ll then be having tests for reoccurring miscarriage with my consultant at my local hospital. So both unrelated and the molar is definitely just bad luck!
Where are you with your follow ups now, are your hcg levels going down?

Hi @MariaC03, thanks for your reply. I'm really so sorry to hear about your miscarriages. Had they told you that they suspected that this was a PMP in March or was yesterday the first you heard of it? It really does feel like another punch when you're already down to have to deal with a partial molar. It sounds like your consultant has a good plan in place though - get the PMP dealt with and then do some investigations into the recurring miscarriage. That's the plan that they have in place for me too but it feels really frustrating having to wait for my hcg levels to drop.

How are you feeling? It sounds like you've had a difficult year. Were you sick during the last pregnancy?

I am due to take my second set of tests on Monday. My first blood results last week were 228 which I think is maybe not too bad of a place to start but we'll see if they drop next week. Fingers crossed.

I had started another thread on the miscarriage page as well and there are a couple of other ladies on there in the same situation if you want to take a look - it makes me feel better to think I'm not the only woman in the country with a PMP! @MilkyWay123
Yes they suspected molar on the dreaded ultrasound, they said the placenta looked cystic. I’d never heard of molar pregnancy’s at that point so in a way I was glad I might have a reason for all this, but then I did my research on molar pregnancies!

I wasn’t actually sick but I felt absolutely awful during the short pregnancy I had! I couldn’t eat anything but beige and I was exhausted. I kept saying to my husband I was never like this with my son or previous pregnancies. It was on another level and I was completely useless, practically bed bound by the time weekends came around. Now I know why. As soon as I had the ERPC I was pretty much back to normal and have felt fine physically since. Emotionally, I’ve been a little on edge at times this last last year 😩 But I’ve continually looked forward and never back, I make an effort not to dwell on what could have been, so this has helped me get on with things.

228 sounds good, I would be pleased with that for the first set of results. I hope you see a big jump in the right direction with your next results! I have no idea when I will have my first tests, hopefully soon, I know they don’t change anything but I just want to know where I’m at.

Thank you for your reply, I’ll definitely take a look at the link and see how you ladies are doing. Take care . X

@MariaC03 it sounds like you've had a really good attitude about things. I know it's not easy. I called Charring Cross myself to see if they had received my referral. You could maybe try ringing Sheffield to see if they have received your referral or if they can give you a timeline for when they will send out your first test kit if you're finding it frustrating waiting?

You could have been describing my PMP experience 😬 I was physically sicker than in my other pregnancies but the constant around the clock nausea and tiredness were the real problems. I was in bed before my son at night and crawled through the days eating rice cakes and toast.

I hope you hear from Sheffield soon and that your levels drop quickly. It would be good to keep in touch to hear how you get on.xx
