6 months over 35, 12 months under 35 - what if you ARE 35?!

We’ve been TTC our second child now for 10 months to no avail. I’m 35, DH is 34. Our DD is almost 3. Initially I’d thought we needed to wait a full year, but DH suggested we should ring now, because it’s been over 6 months and I’m 35.

I’ve googled and read everything - it all seems to say ‘under 35 wait 12 months’ and ‘over 35 wait 6 months’ - but which do you do if you’re 35?!

I’m quite anxious about ringing anyway - it feels a bit real and I’m a bag of emotions. The last thing I want is to feel stupid for ringing too early. But actually, if time is ticking on and we could’ve got help earlier I’m going to kick myself.

Any advice?!

I went to the doctor after 6 months at 34. I had decided I'd wait for 9 months but then Corona started to become a problem again so I went in September. Turned out I had a fibroid blocking my womb. Currently recovering and almost ready to try again. They were fine to see me at 34. They said 6 months, given I was using LH tests for ovulation, was plenty of time

35 is over 35

I was 34 when trying to conceive number 2. And then 6 months later turned 35 so went to GP. And was refered straight away. But just to say as you have a daughter you do have to pay for treatments. We had our tests through NHS about 8 months after starting ttc number 2. But had to pay for the results of these and all of our treatments

@DoctorBambino

35 is over 35
I agree with this.

You had to pay for tests, @Donimo? I know you have to pay for treatment if you have a DC but tests?!

Thank you all, I’ll get an appointment made. I don’t know whether to feel relieved I can get on with it, or sad that it means taking action! Such a mix of emotions.

I didn’t realise you pay for the tests if it’s secondary infertility? I knew the treatment would need us to pay, but thought the tests would be on the NHS? Can you recall how much the tests were? Is there a benefit to going via the NHS at all then, or would we be best going private immediately?

We had the tests for free, apart from AMH test which we had to pay for. But to have the results explained and discussed we had to pay for a private consultants appointment at a cost of £170.

I think that's really poor. I hope you didn't have to wait NHS time for the appointment!

I think many people have to pay for the AMH test though, even if entitled to IVF, depending on location.
