Ivf 3 failed transfers

Hi, we've just finished our second cycle of ivf which resulted in one egg that fertilised was transferred on day 3 and it failed this was our 3rd transfer, we don't have any embryos in storage, we are going for a follow up consultation and was just wondering what kind of questions I should ask, we have a little boy who was conceived naturally in 2016 before him I had a mmc then since having our son I've had 3 more, I do have a low egg reserve and that's why we went down the ivf route as we were told that would give us the best possible chance of getting pregnant. I am 40 now and I'm worried I'm not going to have any more children.

Congratulations on your little boy. You are blessed!

I'm sure the OP knows she is blessed to have her little boy, but the post is asking advice after failed IVF which is obviously disappointing, especially after multiple miscarriages.

I'm sorry for your losses and failed cycle, @Lauraliverpool. I haven't had a follow up meeting after failed IVF so I'm afraid I don't know what you should be asking, but hopefully someone helpful will come along with some advice Flowers

@Yokey thank you ♥ just struggling to think of what to ask this time.

Hi @Lauraliverpool I am by no means an expert but will try and help.

It sounds like you’ve had two egg collection cycles, how did the first one go? you mentioned three transfers altogether so presumedly there were 2 embryos from the first, were they day 3 or day 5?

I have been reading about day 3 transfers, they can be helpful in some situations, it is hoped that the uterus can provide a better environment than the in vitro environment, so presumedly they were a bit concerned about your most recent embryo making it to day 5?

You’ve mentioned a number of miscarriages, have you been investigated in relation to them? I think at your age the chance of a euploid embryo is about 1/3-1/4, so it may have been that in your miscarriages the embryos could have been aneuploid, but could be worth investigating to see if there is any other issue.

I think given your situation I would be thinking about perhaps going through some egg collections cycles, perhaps with PGT-A testing.

I’ve found it helpful to write down the main points I want to discuss in the specialist appointment and make sure I bring each one up to discuss it.

@Gardenlady543 I've had two egg collections, first we got 8 egg and 7 of those fertilised then had one transferred and two were suitable for freezing. First transfer failed then had a frozen transfer that failed and just recently had 3rd failed transfer from the second cycle. First transfer was a day 5 and second day 5 frozen, this most recent was day 3 as we only had the one that fertilised from 3 that were collected.

I have had investigations at the recurrent miscarriage clinic and as far as I can recall there didn't seem to be a cause other than I may have had a short luteal phase so when we were trying ourselves I used projesterone pessaries and was given high dose folic acid.
We don't really have the money to have more IVF, I have considered what you have mentioned about investigations, I do know that on one of the scans I had during the ivf they found scarring in my womb, I did have a c section with my son but I did have 3 operations after the miscarriages which I think has caused this. Definitely a good idea to write down the main points.

Hi @Lauraliverpool I’m a bit confused in the first fresh cycle you had 3 x day 5 embryos and two transfers, so was the FET a double transfer?

Then in the second fresh cycle you had 1 x day 3 embryo?

Do you have any more frosties?

I’m sorry to hear that finances are limiting your options, this is such a costly process, so far I’ve spent £16k and I’m no closer to a child Sad. I think there are positive aspects in your case, clearly the embryos can implant. If they have investigated the miscarriages and can’t find any specific issue, then it could just be down to luck, the chance of an aneuploid embryo increases with age and these embryos tend to either not implant or miscarry. You do still have a chance naturally and it may be that you just need to keep trying.

Lauraliverpool · 23/03/2021 10:58

@Gardenlady543 first cycle we got 8 eggs, 7 of those fertilised, I had one embryo transferred on day 5 and there were two remaining embryos that were frozen, the first transfer failed so I then had a single frozen transfer as the first frozen embryo didn't survive the thaw. This second cycle we got 3 eggs and one of those fertilised the other two was one was immature and the other didn't fertilise. No we don't have any frosties.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation, this whole process is so hard, physically and emotionally ♥ I'm going to ask what chances we have realistically realistically about trying ourselves, I'm just so scared about it all.

Ah that makes sense, @Lauraliverpool it sounds like the only thing that’s been found to date in your investigations is scarring, so maybe bring that up with the specialist to see if there are any options that could improve the chances of implantation. Hopefully you have some points to discuss at the meeting with your specialist from this thread. Flowers

@Gardenlady543 that was the first time I knew that there was any scarring, I will definitely bring that up at the follow up and ask if there could be a cause. I definitely do have some points to discuss, you've all been so very helpful and it's very much appreciated 💐 @Yokey 💐
