Private IVF BMI over 35

Hi

Sorry if this has been covered before but we are looking into private IVF funding. My BMI is currently 36.9 but I think most clinics require it to be under 35.

Are there any clinics who allow it to be over 35? Preferably in the central belt of Scotland.

To lose weight I have tried weight watchers. Slimming world and calorie counting nothing is working, I also exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. I just don't know what else to do.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, not sure about clinics, but have you spoken with your GP about the difficulties with losing weight? Sometimes a high bmi that doesn't respond readily to the conventional diets and exercise can be a symptom of hormonal imbalances such as hypothyroidism - some of these imbalances can be detected fairly easily with blood tests and medication might then be able to help your body respond more efficiently to diet and exercise?

I feel your pain @Ttcforever2021. I can't advise on clinics that take people with a BMI over 35 but I have heard people talk about it and it may well be a better option depending on other factors like age.

I have been trying to lose weight and found some things just haven't worked for me. I've been trying to get mine below 30. It was 33 in January and is now 30.1 🙈 so close! I tried water fasting and stopped losing weight after a month. I switched to the fast800 and have lost quite a lot in my first few weeks ~1kg/week. I think the low-ish carb nature of that diet, plus obvs the lower cals has really helped. There's a thread for it over on the "fasting/blood sugar diet" thread if you're interested in knowing any more.

@Scirocco thanks, I've spoken to my GP but they just say they can't help me as I need to lose weight. I'm going to give them a call tomorrow to see what else can be done because I m a bit annoyed they keep fobbing me off.

I'm hoping they can do further tests and maybe even prescribe something that may help. 🤷🏻‍♀️

@CycleGirl20 thaks for the advice.

I feel like I'm just getting older and been trying for the past 6 years. I almost lost the weight once but this time it's just not happening. Its so depressing and me getting stressed about it doesn't help.

I can imagine. It is really stressful when you're doing everything right and nothing happening. There must be clinics who take a higher BMI. I wonder in Create does. I'm only guessing that as ABF point you to Create if you don't meet their criteria, and one of those criteria is BMI.

Someone on here will know a clinic

At least part of the reason mini is an issue for clinics is because fat is an endocrine disrupter. So a higher bmi is an indicator that fertility treatment is less likely to work. So it's a bit unethical for them to take your money knowing it won't work.

Update.... I called the GCRM today and they have advised their BMI limit is 40. So hopefully me and the hubs a can get started asap and obviously il lstilk be trying to lose weight cos after all... Who doesn't want to be a bit lighter and have better chances?

Fingers crossed for you. There's a couple of Scotland-based threads on here if you want to chat with any of us about things. ❤️
