Fertility after sexual assault

Hello,

This is my first post :)

Anyway, when I was much younger my boyfriend at the time forced himself on me. I didn't have any sexual experience prior to that and was not ready both emotionally and physically for that to happen. It happened while on my period.

Soon after I started to bleed heavily. It lasted for 2 weeks. I went to the hospital that day. They suspected PID but weren't sure as my sti tests came back negative. After a few days I started to develop pain in the left side of my pelvic.

When my period came I was sores all over including my back. I decided to go back to the doctors who prescribed antibiotics.

To this day the pain still continues and I have very heavy periods, massive clots.

I had a laparoscopy to rule out endometriosis which came back clear. I had lots of other sti tests, also clear and a few ultrasounds which also came back clear.

The pain comes during, after my period and during ovulation. It can last for up to 3 days.

After reading online, I'm looking to do a test to check my tubes, hycosy. I'll do it privately as gynaecologist in London under the NHS don't seem to be helpful at all.

I was just hoping to get some advise. There are times when I can get very sad as I don't know what harm has been done.

Hi @Meena2020 I want to say how sorry I am to hear about this awful experience and the symptoms you’ve experienced over the years.

Your case sounds complicated I think you need to be reviewed by a gynaecologist, you may well have seen one before, but it doesn’t sound like you’ve got answers as yet.

I’m struck by your comment about the sadness in the context of a very traumatic experience, have you had counselling to talk all this through?

In some cases when thorough investigations come back normal, symptoms can be driven by unresolved traumatic experiences. But even when a cause is known, there is often a benefit of psychological treatment. It can be a vicious circle, mental health symptoms make physical issues worse, the worse physical issues, the worse a person’s mental health.

Sending you a lot of hugs, really hope you get to the bottom of all this.

Hello @Gardenlady543,

Thank you for your reply and kind advise.

I did see a few gynecologist but I actually never told them that I was assaulted, just discussed the pain with them. It's something that I just recently opened up about.

I understand that it sounds like it's psychological but I don't think it's the case.

The pains are only coming at certain points in my cycle and that include during ovulation which I never use to get before. I also get the localised pain during and after my period.

I'm planning on getting the hycosy test to check my uterus and tubes and if everything comes back clear, I'll just have to live with it.

The tests that I have done do not show the tubes and I think that this might be where the pain is coming from.
