Initial fertility tests

Hello all
Looking for some advice about the typical first steps when going to the GP for fertility tests.
Background (sorry it's long!) I became pregnant early last year, but found out at the 12 week scan that I'd had a missed miscarriage. I had a MVA, but then retained products and after lots of back and forth at hospital had GA and products finally removed over two months later - all pretty traumatic. I have PCOS and at my request to GP got put on metformin. I'd had very irregular periods and wanted to get into a proper cycle before TTC again. Had also read up that it can reduce the risks of miscarriage if taken for first 12 weeks. It has helped with my periods - now between 30-35 day cycle, but no joy. Today another BFN, so have booked a GP appt to consider what's next. I think it'll be the usual tests, and I might ask whether I can up my metformin dose (on 1000mg a day), and hoping to get them to agree to give me clomid.
Any insight about what the next steps will look like would be so appreciated, especially in relation to getting clomid prescribed
Thanks in advance

GP ought to refer you to a subfertility unit if that has not already happened, tests can be done there and both of you should be tested in tandem.

Clomid is quite powerful stuff and should ideally be given under the supervision of a gynae and you should be monitored whilst on it (through ultrasounds at the very least to see if an egg is leaving the ovary). No monitoring is not good because you then have no way of knowing whether its working or not. Its primary job is to make the ovaries work harder. Some PCOSers are not suitable for clomid or become clomid resistant so monitoring is also important.

Thank you that's helpful, I had heard that monitoring is important so will be sure to try and push for that if clomid ends up being the next step
