How did you afford IVF and how many cycles did you have?

Had my first failed round of IVF which was gutting but to be expected as I know the odds of it actually working is very slim. We spent around £6k on this cycle using our savings.

Before I started this process I thought I would do 3 rounds and then stop, but this last 2 weeks have been absolutely tortuous and I don't think I can go through it again. Not only is it emotionally draining, but also financially draining.

How many rounds have you completed and what was the 'number' you (or will) stop at?

How on earth did you afford it? We are thinking about credit cards at the moment.

Thank you all!

I'm just starting my 1st cycle next month

We are with access on a 2 cycle unlimited FET
£8,300 plus £1300 meds

In my mind I'd probably do no more than 4 cycles
I'm 38 and almost 39 so will spend this year trying but stop when I'm 40
That's my cut off anyway - we shall see!
( we can do another 2 cycle with access after )

Funding wise, little bit of savings, fairly good incomes but nothing major just live below means and rest on 0% credit cards

You have to do what's right

My Boyf brother is getting married this year, he spent 7k on a ring and 20k on a wedding so in my eyes that's a good few Ivfs ! They might think we are mad spending what we are but each to their own. We won't have a wedding that amount. People spend hundreds a month on nice cars ( friends family etc ) £200-300 more a month, we don't but then have chosen to do ivf. So that's how I look at it

And yes children cost money! So for me it's just something we add into our outgoings

I feel so resolute and happy with our journey
You just need to be kind to yourself and accept what you can and can't do.

@AutumnVibes Yes, I was actually quite impressed that everyone I spoke to was so good in English. All the documents, consent forms, etc were in English too, of curse.
