Anyone tried IVF with own eggs at 46

Capucine888 · 27/02/2021 17:26

Hello everyone, I know, I am too old for this, but maybe anyone tried it?
Last summer at age 45 I was scheduled to start IVF with my own eggs in September but fell pregnant just before that.. Unfortunately it ended in TFMR at 17 weeks..
It was really hard emotionally but I have to decide if I should try to do something as trying naturally is probably zero chance at my age and that pregnancy was truly a miracle..
I don't have kids, met partner late in life, I am going to be 46 in March.
I would be really grateful if you share your stories here and also for clinics recommendation in London or abroad.
Thank you!

I think the stats suggest you would have a less than 1% chance of success with own eggs.

ArtfulScreamer · 27/02/2021 22:55

Not me but a friend tried IVF in UK with own eggs at 45 BFN so then used donor eggs in Cyprus BFP she is now mum to an adorable DD.

Marty13 · 27/02/2021 23:52

No personal experience. My boss had her third naturally at 44 years old though. It is not impossible, though I think given the odds you do need to consider ahead of time the possibility that it may not work and how you'd feel about donor egg.

ivfbeenbusy · 28/02/2021 08:09

Personally with success rates around 1% which is the same as trying naturally I wouldn't spend thousands on IVF......

Thinkingandblinking · 28/02/2021 08:47

Success rates are not the same for everyone, and maybe just doing the cycle will give you the closure or direction for next steps, sometimes making the decisions is the hardest bit! Whatever feels 51% right and navigate your way to what you want, it might not be the journey you were expecting.

Thank you very much for your replies!
It is difficult to move to DE just few months after natural pregnancy, without trying own eggs, even at my age..

Also I have younger sister, she is 39 y.o. and suggested to give me her eggs. I am thinking about this as at least we share our same pool DNA from our parents. But never heard anyone doing it though read so many threads here. Maybe anyone heard about similar experience, using donated eggs from your sister?

Hello OP, first of all, I'm sorry for your struggles.

If you feel you're not ready to use DE, go for one round of IVF, find a clinic that you can afford and that you trust they will do anything in their power to get you pregnant and they will be honest with you when it's time to use DE.

Also, I am not sure if it was in this forum or another I'm in, but yes I've heard of sister donating eggs, as I remember the pregnancy was successful but you need to be honest and put some ground rules from the start. For example what is the child going to know? How is she going to feel? Family of her own? Maybe have some family counselling first? If you have your DC1 and then you want a second can you use eggs the "leftover" eggs? There are a lot of things to consider and discuss before moving forward with something like this.

greendress789 · 30/06/2021 23:26

Would you consider a tandem cycle? They do these in clinics abroad.

Hi, I am new to mumsnet, but wanted to let you know i have recently started IVF , I am 45 and I'm going to use my own eggs, this is my first time trying IVF.
I fell pregnant naturally in Jan this year but unfortunately resulted in a partial molar pregnancy at 11 weeks, we were unable able to try again for 3 months due to having to be monitored by a specialist unit and having to wait for my hormone levels to return.
I met my partner later in life so we have only really been trying this year, but because of my age we didn't want to wait any longer... I know the chances of getting pregnant are low but if we dont try IVF we would always regret not trying. I started my medication two weeks ago, we are doing the long protocol so fingers crossed

Ruby210 · 15/10/2021 10:42

Capucine888 how did things go for you since posting? We also had a TFMR and I'm about to turn 45 so wondering about clinic options with own/donor eggs.

TB1976 so sorry for your loss. I'm feeling similarly about wanting to have one more try and wondered if you found it easy to find a clinic which would go ahead with your own eggs? Just starting to look into it all too.

TB1976 · 15/10/2021 11:27

Hi, Sorry for your loss, its so tough.....

I have been taking Buserelin for the last 2 weeks, I need to continue to take it for another 3-4 weeks.
I have 3 scans booked for w/c 25/10 so I hope all goes well.

We are using Care Fertility, they are happy for me to use my own eggs although they did explain my chances are low, i also looked at Create, who were also happy for me to use own eggs.

Its all a bit surreal to be honest but we just need try.

Ruby210 · 15/10/2021 12:20

Yes it's so tough isn't it. I'm still in the thick of hormones and loss but it gives some comfort to know there might still be options.

Good to know Care Fertility and Create were both happy on that front. It is definitely worth a try, especially as you were able to conceive naturally so recently. Good luck with the scans and please do share updates if you feel able x

TB1976 · 15/10/2021 13:01

Thank you.
I will keep you updated x

whitney00 · 17/10/2021 22:48

Hi TB1976, I'm in a similar situation to you, I met my partner late in life and had a natural pregnancy last year, where I miscarried at 7 weeks, I feel the need to try with my own eggs, even though I know the chances are low.

I'm not sure where to start, and am trying to decide which clinic we should try. I want to move quickly but I'm finding it difficult to decide where to go.

Can i ask what made you chose CARE London, and is there any particular doctor that you decided to go with? Did you try Create?

Look forward to your reply!

TB1976 · 18/10/2021 10:41

Hi Whitney00, thank you for your message, sorry for your loss.

I am using Care Birmingham, I looked at both Care and Create (Birmingham) as I am located in the West Midlands, The reason I chose Care was mainly due to the reviews.

I have my scan tomorrow.

Can I ask how old you are ?

x

whitney00 · 18/10/2021 10:55

Hi TB976! Thank you for your message. I am almost 45yrs.
I am based in London and spoke to both Care and Create.
Very much inclined to go to Care but also thinking about CRGH..

Best of luck with your scan tomorrow x

TB1976 · 18/10/2021 11:00

Hi whitney00,
Thank you x

TB1976 · 19/10/2021 15:23

Hi, just a quick update , I had my scan today, but unfortunately my lining was too thick and I also had one follicle.... so they did a blood test to understand what is going on with my hormones, I get my results tomorrow and confirmation of my next steps.

whitney00 · 19/10/2021 15:43

That's very kind of you to share. Fingers crossed for you and that the next steps are successful x

TB1976 · 19/10/2021 16:02

Thank you, I hope so.

ElegantlyJaded · 11/05/2022 16:58

@TB1976 @whitney00 @Ruby210 @Capucine888 are you ladies still around? How did you get on?

Ruby210 · 11/05/2022 18:09

@ElegantlyJaded yes still here. I started looking into our options but tbh felt uncertain about going through it all again. My partner was not 100% on board, especially as I had a dubious mammogram recently. I go up and down with guilt and sadness at my last pregnancy being unsuccessful, but equally unsure if I really want to risk it all again, so mainly working on that at the moment. What is your situation?

alison1979 · 17/08/2023 14:46

@TB1976 Hello I wonder if you could tell me if your IVF was a success??

I'm nearly considering it and I'm nearly 45 .Thanks

Sheepsheeps · 17/08/2023 17:24

@Capucine888 hi! Have you had your AMH levels checked and folical count? It'll give you a rough idea of how many eggs you will collect on each cycle. If it's really low, be prepared to only collect 1 maybe 2 eggs each time. That was hardest for me. Putting myself through endless weeks each time of scans, drugs and blood tests to only collect 1 egg and for then it to fail fertilisation etc. It has taken me 9 months to collect 6 blastocysts. I haven't had them genetically tested as I'm too frightened they will all come back aneuploid and be destroyed. We are slowly taking our chances putting them in. I wish you all the best and don't give up hope with your own eggs until you've got proper stats based around YOU and not the common trend for your age xx
