First gyno appointment?

Hey ladies!

Just wondering what usually goes down at the first gyno appointment, we have a telephone consultation for 30.03.2021.

Me and OH have both had blood tests, I've had internal scans and he has had sperm analysis via the GP. I've got PCOS and OH sperm count is lower than the minimum but motility is good.

What will happen during the phone conversation? Does anything get decided or is it just repeating the same info that we gave to the GP?

On another note, when diagnosed with PCOS will they still help even if overweight? My weight hasn't changed (up or down) for 7 years, and I've been taking metformin, exercising, cut out most sugars etc.

TIA :)

Forgot to also ask what you ladies are doing in regards to the covid vaccine - I can't currently have it anyway due to still being within the 28 day period, but not sure what to do after that!

We had our appointment last month, spent about 20 mins each going through our medical history. They went into a lot more depth than the GP on the questions. I was then referred for a HSG and some scans and DH has to do a urine test (he had a SA via the GP).

They did ask me about my height and weight, but my BMI is 23 so it isn’t a problem. I don’t think they will treat you if you have a BMI over 30 as a friend of mine had to lose weight (Manchester NHS). But it might be different in different areas - I’m sure they’ll say if it’s a problem.

I was told at age 33 that if there was nothing obvious and I don’t have low reserves they may decide to defer IVF as it should happen naturally (we’ve been trying for 28 cycles with not even a late period to test). Based on my experience so far they are unlikely to refer to IVF unless they have identified the issue and definitely not at the first appointment.

We will need to decide if they say we are to wait whether we pay privately and miss our NHS round or wait for an unknown length of time before the NHS decide to treat us. Whilst I’m 33, DH is 39 and I don’t want to wait another 12 months for IVF if we are going to need it. I know we are fortunate in our area we would receive one round but it sounds as though it’s not as straightforward as that.

I had a bit of a different experience than pp in that I was almost immediately referred for IVF even though we are 'unexplained'
At first appointment they went over everything then referred me for a HyCoSy just to rule out tubes being blocked.
After that we had another appointment where we were put on IVF waiting list.
I'm 28 years old, been with my partner 6 years. Unprotected sex all of that time so I think perhaps because of the length of time it has been is why I was referred

Different clinics/areas may do things differently

@willithappen I think my situation is quite similar to yours, been with my husband coming up 6 years I'm 27 and he's 28. Unprotected sex the whole time (and frequently) with no pregnancy.

I have been diagnosed with PCOS and put on metformin to help control my weight, but it's not making a difference. I'm not even sure what my BMI is but I'm 5'7 and just under 15st.

I haven't had a period since I was around 18, but have since spoken to the GP and been given tablets to induce one.

It's just so strange isn't it?

@NicotineRushh
Having PCOS and not having a period might make them want to try it quicker
You can check your BMI online on the NHS website, just pop in BMI calculator to google and it will come up for you :)

Hope all goes well at your appointment! It's been a very long wait for us but I believe I'm due for egg collection on Wednesday so finally getting there!
