Sperm analysis and smoking

Hi everyone,

TTC for nearly three years. I'm 32, hubs 37. I've had bloods and scans and all normal so far.
Hubby finally went for sperm analysis and not good
Approx 6 mill sperm, 22% progressive motiloty, 2% normal forms
He has taken it quite badly tbh and feels this is the end of the road
He is quite a stress head and a smoker, day 5 on a good day, 20 on a bad day

We're in the process of working on this and maybe buying proxeed, stopping smoking etc

I was wondering if there was anyone outthere who's partners had implemented lifestly changes and eventually got bfp naturally or via ivf/icsi?

Babydust to you all x

Hi, haven’t had a positive yet but I’ve read plenty of stories about positives with that count. Unfortunately it does just take IVF rather than a natural conception. If you think about it you might get max 20 eggs so only 20 good sperm are needed. You also have a lot of room for improvement with obvious lifestyle issues such as smoking. My previous fertility consultant said what is the point of the woman going through ivf if the partner is still smoking - that’s it’s a waste of time.

With a history of this issue you need to take 3 months for your DH to get serious instead of giving up and then redo the count and then move forward with IVF (preferably ICSI/IMSI).

  • give up smoking completely
  • no alcohol
  • no caffeine
  • follow Mediterranean diet
  • take supplements daily
I’ve seen 3 different fertility lifestyle specialist people and they all recommended along the lines of what my DH takes:
  • Proceive Max men (heard Proxseed also good)
  • 200 ubiquinol (not coq10 ubiquinol absorbs better)
  • WHC uno cardio plus vitamin d
  • Mor DHA (not EPA) x2 capsules daily
  • vitamin c 500 biocare ( easily absorbed) twice daily

I would also recommend with male issues that you get a DNA fragmentation test done and see a urologist to make sure there is no issues there that could also improve count. Jonathan Ramsay is the top guy in U.K. but I’m sure there are others.

I should say there is also always the chance of a natural conception with improvements to sperm but I wouldn’t bank on it given your own age and spend years more looking for the natural conception

Thanks @Anyoneelsewilldo

Will definetly look into those supplements. Agree with the age thing (sad but true) , I'll give it 3 months and if no change we'll have to go via icsi route.

It's all so stressful, seems like everyone around me is knocked up!

It will take 3 months for any benefits from the regime above to show so If you are wanting to try longer naturally you could try for 3 months after implementing them. New sperm takes 90 days to come about so it’s 90 days really of new lifestyle he needs. Also the usual about no baths, laptops on knees, eat nuts and ejaculate every 2-3 days to renew the supply.

Good luck!

I know this is an old thread but we are in a similar position @Gfarm21 and I wondered what your outcome was? Thanks xx
