20 eggs down to 1 - so disappointed

I have just completed my first round of IVF due to male factor issues so we did ICSI. I am 37, AMH of 19, and was on a low dose of stims (112.5 of gonal f) I ended up with 31 follicles although a lot of them were small.

On egg collection day I got 20 eggs which I was thrilled with. Of those 15 were mature but only 8 fertilised. I had a fresh transfer yesterday with a 4AB but got a call this morning to say none were suitable for freezing.

4 had made it to blastocyst stage but were all deemed to be CC so no good.

Has anyone else had experience of this level of drop off? I was expecting it to be significant but though I might have 1 or 2 suitable to freeze.

Hi

Ive had around 6 cycles of ICSI and only on my very last cycle, did i have enough good quality embryos to freeze.
I transferred 2 embryos on cycle 4, twin pregnancy (i miscarried 1) and had DS.

On my final cycle, i got 24 eggs, 13 were mature and only 5 fertilised, i thought i was out
On transfer day, i had 1 transferred, and 3 were frozen. I was utterly shocked.
I then had used all but 2 embryos which ended in BFNs so decided our final cycle, we would transfer the last 2 embryos. Im now 32 weeks pregnant.

Dont be disheartened, it only takes 1.
And if you are unsuccessful, and you are in a position to cycle again, it doesnt mean you will end up with the same results.

Good luck

Hi @Nichola2310 sorry to hear about this.

I would ask at your consult if they think egg quality or sperm issues causing your issues. Usually egg takes it to day 3 then sperm carries on so if they fell of day 4-5

Anyoneelsewilldo · 16/02/2021 19:38

Sorry posted too soon! If they fell off day 4-5 this indicates sperm quality.

I would recommend in this case having a DNA frag test and urology appointment to see what the sperm quality is like.

For you then check your testosterone levels to see if maybe DHEA will help.

Hopefully your embryo will take and this won’t even need to be considered. But if not they are the next steps I will take.

we had MFI issues also, I had 17 eggs collected, 12 mature and only 2 fertilised.
only 1 made it to day 5 its was a 4bb. she now 18 months old.
I know how you feel, i was so upset with low numbers i thought with so many eggs i would have some to freeze, but it really does only take 1.
Good luck!!

I had 24 eggs, and only tried to fertilise 15 of them (so still have 9 actual eggs), which resulted in 6 blastocysts. Had one transferred which is my dd. None of my blastocysts were amazing quality and I definitely had a couple or more that were lower than cc but my clinic (CRGH) said to freeze anyway because they did see pregnancies from these.

Thank you for all your comments. I have all my hopes pinned on this one that they have transferred.

Good luck! My clinic freezes CC embryos if they are a 3, 4 or 5, I have a 4BC and a 4CC Frostie left (currently in 2WW with a 5BB). An article online says once transferred a 4 or 5CC grades blastocyst still has a 27% chance of success (live birth). They probably are more likely to fail to survive the thaw though. You have a great chance with a 4AB that’s a very high quality blastocyst.

@kikisparks it's really strange that different clinics have different policies. I was thinking afterwards maybe it would have been better to do a transfer with one of the CC's and freeze the AB, but too late now!

Good luck to you!
