Pcos - low GI diet (vegan) and supplements

Hi all

I have pcos (with very irregular periods) and have been ttc for nearly 2 years. A couple of months ago I started taking myoinositol but think I should maybe alter my diet too.

I've heard a low GI diet is recommended, I am also vegan so I know it could be tricky to cut even more food out. Does anyone have any any advice on where to start with a low GI (vegan) diet?

And what other supplements are reccomended for PCOS?

My partner and I have agreed to go for a fertility referral in August so I just want to really do all I can to help conceive 'naturally' (and try and regulate my periods) before then

Thanks :)

As you have been ttc for nearly two years without success I would urge you to start the referral process earlier than August. It can take some considerable time for appointments to come through hence this suggestion.

How irregular is your cycle now?. Supplements like vitamin d, zinc and magnesium may help with PCOS but there is no one therapy or treatment that will completely eradicate PCOS.

Verity's website could be helpful also to you here:-

I would love to but my partner has agreed to August and does not want to do it any earlier.. so I'm just going to try and do everything I can until then

I'm currently on cycle day 35, my last cycles were: 45 days, 65 days, 42 days, 96 days, 33 days. So it can vary quite a lot

Thank you for the suggestions and I website, I will have a look though veritys

Hey
I have no expertise on diet but I just wanted to share that I read a very useful book called 'Period Repair Manual' by Lara Briden ND. It was very informative about cycles and how we can potentially fix any issues. Sections on PCOS too.
Good luck with everything xx

I’m not sure if a low GI diet helps but I’m vegan and ate a diet that might have been low GI, although that wasn’t my aim (I ate a wholefoods diet that was gluten and refined sugar free) in the months leading up to egg collection. I had oat bran porridge made with soya milk with stevia, berries flaxseeds and nuts for breakfast, and then varied meals for lunch and dinner like bean chilli with quinoa; bulgur wheat and bean stuffed peppers; salads with seeds, beans, and sweet potato; vegetable and lentil soups; chickpea and coconut curries; risotto made from cauliflower rice; fried tofu, avocado and beans Buddha bowl; scrambled tofu with oat bran muffins; shepherd’s pie with turnip mash and green lentils; veg stir fry etc. For snacks I had carrot sticks, edamame, sugar free soya yoghurt, cherry tomatoes and a green apple per day.
