How many of your PGS tested embryos were normal?

I know there's been a few different threads recently mentioning PGS, but was wondering specifically if you tested, how many were normal and what age were you please? I'm currently waiting on results and feel very anxious that none will be normal.

I have sent off 8 embryos collected over 3 cycles (have a few more held back for now of lower grades) Eggs were collected at 41/42 years of age.

Thanks for any help on this.

Hi @IslandStars I would also be interested to know this. We haven't decided whether to test any yet and I am also 41.

Were yours sampled before being frozen? All ours will be frozen so therefore would need to undergo thawing and freezing again twice which does put me off.

Wishing you all the luck for your results xx

Age 36 - 2 embryos tested. Neither normal (complex abnormal and a low level mosaic)

Decided not to test on my next egg collection and took a chance and didn't test the 2 embryos I got.....gave birth to twins last month. I'm very sceptical of PGS testing now

Also know people who re tested their "no result" embryos and all of them came back normal 🤷‍♀️

Hi,

From our 1st round, we had 5 embryos, 3 were normal and from our 2nd round, we had 7 Embryos, 5 were normal and 2 were mosaic.

Sending positive wishes for your results x

It's also worth mentioning, in our first round, we had 1 that came back as inconclusive initially, we retested it and it came back as normal. It had to be thawed and retested and on transfer day it was poor quality which could have been something to do with thawing and freezing twice.

IslandStars · 08/02/2021 20:36

@Sara279 Mine were all biopsied before being frozen, to avoid the thawing & freezing twice.

@ivfbeenbusy Thanks for replying, even though you must be run off your feet with twins! Hope it’s all going well for your new family. I must admit, your experience sums up the worry of PGS and whether it’s worthwhile, although at 42, trying to avoid miscarriage is my main reason for doing it.

Did you transfer your low level mosaic?

@Ann99 Thank you, amazing results, I think they are the best normal ratio per round that I have seen!

@IslandStars, We have been incredibly lucky with the results, although the first 1 failed and I miscarried 2 of them... I'm currently in the 2ww with my 4th transfer... fingers crossed!

I hope you get some great results!

IslandStars · 08/02/2021 21:02

@Ann99 Sorry to hear of your losses, I know it’s still such a gamble / element of luck even with normal embryos. Really wish you all the best for your 2ww! X

31 - 3 tested all abnormal
33 - 4 tested 3 normal (one my son)
36 - 4 tested 2 normal

Xxx

Ann99 · 08/02/2021 21:44

@IslandStars it really is but you just have to keep going and trust that you'll get there in the end. Thank you for your kind words x

sozzleb1983 · 08/02/2021 22:03

We had 5 tested and 3 were normal. We had had one of them implanted previously too which failed so l feel like it was 50%. One of the tested embryos gave us our daughter who is 6 months old Smile

sozzleb1983 · 08/02/2021 22:04

Sorry l was 34 when they were frozen and 36 when the embryo was transferred x

sozzleb1983 · 08/02/2021 22:06

Fingers crossed for your results l know how hard it is x

ivfbeenbusy · 08/02/2021 23:24

@IslandStars

Yes we were allowed to transfer our mosaic but ended in a BFN x

CKMc2b · 08/02/2021 23:59

Hi there. In my first round of IVF (when I was 40) I had 5 embryos tested and 1 was PGS normal. This gave me a BFP but unfortunately ended in a MC at 7 weeks. We haven't tested since and have had 6 other failed transfers. Transfer #7 will be in March. Now 41, and transferring 2 untested at a time (I have 8 in the freezer). Let's hope this year is the one. I went under GA 9 times last year! Under once so far this year, will be again shortly for toe surgery and my FET as I get a lot of pain with transfers.

Thanks so much for the replies everyone, good luck to all those still trying.

We had 6 embryos sent for testing, 2 from an egg retrieval when I was 36 and 4 from a retrieval when I was 40. I was expecting the younger embryos to be better, but only one was normal from that batch and two were normal from the later retrieval, so we ended up with 50% normal overall.

I'm currently 5 weeks pregnant with one of them and after 4 miscarriages I am relieved that we tested, if only to avoid the potential 50% fail rate had we gone ahead without. It's not cheap however!

IslandStars · 10/02/2021 09:18

@loulamay Thank you, that's really interesting to hear the difference in results at 36 / 40, just goes to show anything can happen. Congratulations on your pregnancy, hope everything goes smoothly!

My package included the testing of 4 embryos. The extra 4 i have tested has cost me £1400 but i see it as similar to the cost of an FET, so if that was to fail with an abnormal one, at least i can say i have not lost money as such and saved on the heartache.
