I've recently had investigations at Coventry, and my second biopsy has come back as low. I'm not really sure what to make of this as I was so geared up to have either High or a normal NK cells. Does anyone know what this means? my follow up consultation with Prof Brosens is not for another week.

Hi there, sorry for your losses - I am in the same boat but got pregnant again before I had the results.
Prof Brosens explained to me that it may mean there are low levels of stem cells in my uterus. He may a prescribe a medication and high dose of progesterone.
He's really containing and reassuring.
Let me know how it goes?

Thank you for your reply @notpsychic. I've actually had my results back really quickly so no chance to be pregnant. I'll see what he says next week. He was really nice when we had our initial appointment. I hope this pregnancy is going well for you

Hi
Is there any update to this post ? I’ve just had my first biopsy come back and I have really low nk cells - just below 1 percent . I’m shocked as was totally expecting normal
Or high x

NotMyDayJob · 16/03/2021 08:38

Hi @Finleysmom84 sort of but I'm not sure it will be that helpful. I had low NK cells on my second biopsy and was told that this was normal for the second (as I had them on two consecutive cycles) so no specific treatment for low NK cells in this situation other than progesterone therapy. Good luck with getting some answers.

@NotMyDayJob thanks for the reply . Sorry if I’m being thick but was first one low too? As this is my first result x

NotMyDayJob · 16/03/2021 09:05

Hi, no, my first biopsy was on the high side of normal and the second was low, but apparently a low result is fairly standard for a second biopsy (I'm afraid I didn't understand the whys and wherefores)

@NotMyDayJob I’ll just have to wait and see what the second one shows , good luck 🤞🏻 x

Hows everyone getting on in this thread? I've recently had results for low nk cells after two miscarriages and so scared about not being able to have a baby. Im going through ivf with PGTA testing xx

Wow a lot has happened since I wrote this post .

A Week after I posted my husband was diagnosed with a very rare form of appendix cancer

it turned our world upside down

my husband needed a big op and possibly chemo so we froze sperm

luckily he didn't need chemo . I was prescribed sitagliptin for the low nk cells and I took those whilst my husband recovered

I conceived for the 6th time in sep 21 and again miscarried at 6 weeks .

But just two weeks later I conceived again and this time for whatever reason the pregnancy stuck . I had a completely low risk uneventful pregnancy and gave birth to my daughter , Ella on in July 22. 7th time Lucky !

My husband is currently Ned in the relation to the cancer and life is good .

LAURAPAX · 26/02/2024 12:37

@Finleysmom84 wow so sorry to hear the news of your husband - that must have been so traumatic but fantastic he is recovered and everything went well with your pregnancy too! So happy for you. Do you mind me asking did your clinic prescribe the sitagliptin and how old you were? I haven't transferred yet but tryin to arm myself with all the information as i wonder whether the low nk cells are the reason for my miscarriages and infertility. xx

Finleysmom84 · 26/02/2024 12:41

@LAURAPAX

I was under prof brosnens and I took the sitagliptin for 3 months . I was 36 at the time .
He gave me a private prescription through the post

after the 6th mc , Brosens was going to prescribe me another 3 months worth but I then conceived . Amazingly I wasn't on any meds at all during my pregnancy , not even progesterone.

LAURAPAX · 26/02/2024 12:54

thank you @Finleysmom84 would you recommend visiting Prof Brosnens then? I feel at a bit of a loss to what to do - i really didn't expect to have immune issues and was convinced my miscarriages were age related (36 at time of natural conception) so thats why I went down the IVF pgta route. I am now rapidly approaching 38 with x6 embryos frozen xx

Finleysmom84 · 26/02/2024 13:08

@LAURAPAX to be honest I'm not convinced I had immune issues and in my gut feel it was age related

none of my losses were ever able to be tested so I'll never know if I was Losing genetically normal embryos

my pregnancy with my daughter was txt book just like the one with my son 8 years prior .

the only thing I did privately was visit Brosens

I did like him and felt he was very much invested in finding the causes of recurrent miscarriages and wasn't just in if for the money if that makes sense
