I had my left tube removed in 2017 and went on to have my little girl in 2019. This week I have been diagnosed with another ectopic pregnancy in my right tube. I had an injection of methotrexate yesterday. I am utterly devestated that I will no longer be preganant, that there is a possibility I will no longer be able to have children. My questions are... .

Would my remaining right tube after treatment of this drug be able to be used again to try and conceive? Would it not be damaged now by the baby that begun growing there? Has anyone conceived from a remaining tube that had a previous ectopic within it?

Hi @Allie06 I'm so sorry you've been through this. I had an ectopic last year and am terrified of having another. Methotrexate is given with the hope of conserving the tube and keeping it open to allow further pregnancy. However I would also share your concern about scarring. One option would be to ask your GP to refer you to a fertility clinic. They would be able to do a HyCoSy to check if your remaining tube is patent. If it is then you can continue to try naturally, if not then at least you'll know ASAP that you'll need to consider IVF. Good luck x

Thank you for your reply. Yeah I will see how successful the drug will be over the coming weeks and hopefully I will then speak to my GP. Just wondering if there is any soul who has conceived after a situation like mine. Thanks again for your advice. I appreciate it x

And I'm so sorry you have gone through that also. Like I said I had an ectopic and then fell pregnant with my daughter from the healthy tube so fingers crossed this happens for you x

I had a ruptured ectopic and lost my left tube on 2019 and then in 2019 after an IVF transfer I had another ectopic in my right tube - they offered to try and save it but I declined - everyone I know who had surgery on their tubes went on to lose it to another ectopic anyway

But I have also known lots of people who have had MTX and still Conceived naturally via that tube so anything is still possible if you give it time to heal x

Thank you for your reply. I'm so sorry. I was advised that surgery would result in the tube being removed. I'm praying methotrexate works. But with em having an ectopic there must of been damage already. From what I don't know. Ivf is so expensive isn't it x

Hi @Allie06 I'm sorry for what you're going through.
I've had 3 ectopics in total. First was in Feb 2020 which I lost my left tube. Second was in July 2020 where the ectopic was near the remnant of the left tube, and 3rd was dec 2020 in which my right and only remaining tube ruptured.
I'm sorry that I can't give a positive story. There's always a possibility the tube might be inflamed or scarred from the ectopic.
Maybe see if you're able to get a hycosy done. In hindsight I wish I had gotten this done but I thought to myself 'surely this can't happen AGAIN'
Good luck with your journey, and take some time to heal, it is a very hard thing not just physically but emotionally. X

2020 sounds like the most horrific year for you. I'm so sorry. Hopefully if this methotrexate works I can go. Down the gp route and check my tube with the lap dye test. Fingers crossed. However, I can't physically or mentally do this again. I feel pregnant with all the symptoms but i won't be having this child. Constantly crying, up and down like a yo yo. I attend the hospital tomorrow for bloods to check hcg level and other bloods. Hopefully the level has come down from the 5200 it was. Still had no bleeding at present. Even on previous ectopic I bleed and the pain was excruciating. However, this one has onky been like a niggle on my right and only at times. No bleeding before the drug or after I had it on Tuesday. See what they say tomorrow. X

Oh @Allie06 I'm so sorry this has happened again. And @coffeewithmilk that sounds like a really heartbreaking year, I'm sorry you had to go through it so many times too. I don't have any stories to share myself but I have heard of someone on MN conceiving from a repaired tube.

I had a ruptured ectopic which left me with only one tube! I had two healthily kids naturally from the remaining tube. Then last year lost the last tube to another ectopic!! If I want more I'll have to do ivf!

I am currently going through my second ectopic. Last time I lost my left tube, this time I have had the injection and it looks like it’s working 🤞. Really struggling to find hope of a successful pregnancy after two ectopics, especially when they have effected both tubes. I am 37, so time is ticking. Life can be so cruel.

Hi sammyma. I'm 35 myself. It was very tough time for me and I can only imagine what you are going through. I did get a laparoscopic procedure to run dye through my remaining tube and it turned out to be blocked. They have left my remaining tube in to see if it sorts it self out but I have had no luck in getting pregnant. I had the procedure in march 2022. This is just my story. But there are other people who have successfully gotten pregnant afterwards. I have my heart crossed for you x

Thank you for the reply. If you don’t mind me asking, can you remember how long it took for your hg numbers to return to zero? Mine was high like yours. I’m assuming the injection worked for you and no surgery was needed?x

Allie06 · 10/01/2023 21:12

I'm so sorry you are having to go through this. Wouldn't wish it on anyone. I ended up with 2 injections. A week apart if memory serves me right. The first did not bring my numbers down enough. After the second It took about a week for me to start bleeding and I think another few weeks for my levels to return to zero. So about 5-6 weeks from first initial injection. I think I had to wait 3 months after my levels went to zero to try again. It's a very invasive and toxic drug. I found it made me so ill. Fingers crossed you have a better tolerance. With the process being so long it drags out the loss. But there is light at the end of the tunnel and I've found things get better with time x
