Changing jobs during treatment

Has anyone changed jobs during treatment and if so, do you feel you made the right decision?

I've been putting off changing my job for over two years now, to still be in the same position as then...childless.

I obviously know that it wouldn't be easy, due to the amount of appointments needed in a treatment cycle and some at short notice. I've hated requesting time off in my current job, so know how difficult this would be in a new job. Having said this, I've had many failed treatments over the past 2 years and waiting for ANOTHER treatment plan appointment in person prior to starting my ivf cycle, which is expected to start in Feb/Mar. Of course with Covid, I'm guessing this is likely to be cancelled and I don't want to be throwing out a potentially good opportunity, when I could still be in the same situation in another year.

Any experiences/views appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I had this same dilemma. My job was only ever supposed to be a 5 year job whilst we had a family and I think I'm on year 7! It was a sideways move but less stressful and more family friendly but much lower salary rises (I could probably earn another £20k had I stayed on my previous trajectory but it was a very stressful job).

We set ourselves out time limit (and budget) for IVF - after which id change jobs. In the end it took 5 rounds of IVF and twice as long as planned. But I decided I couldn't face the stress of a new job as well as treatment. My male boss was actually also very supportive and I didn't want to risk losing that in another company

I can't complain with my current job but I absolutely know this situation. I'm 6 years in to a job. I'd probably have changed jobs last year but didn't seem a great time with TTC. Plus, it's really hard to know if you'll get any maternity pay above statutory until after you move jobs. I can imagine needing to stay put for another 3 years minimum!

@ivfbeenbusy @CycleGirl20 thanks so much for your replies.
So rubbish isn't it?!
The company I work for have been really good with letting me go to appts short notice etc. But unfortunately, they don't have a good maternity package, so I'd just have SMP. That's the only annoying thing, but I keep telling myself I jump too far ahead because I haven't even got to a point that I need to think about that yet 🥴
So much goes through our minds doesn't it?!
Anyway, thanks again 😘

I handed my notice in the day before I found out we needed IVF so had no choice.

Did the first cycle in secret (just said I had to take some last minute leave for a family issue but gave forewarning)

Had a change in boss and told them. The boss had been through it and was absolutely brilliant. Gave me lots of flexibility. Had baby after 3rd cycle.

If day it depends on the kind of employer you are going to - if you get a feel that they would be good with you and wouldn't discriminate then go for it. I couldn't have stayed in my old job while going through rounds of failed IVF as it was an awful place to be.

Good luck xx

@FingersXssd83 thanks for your reply. So glad it worked out for you.

I know, I hate the job I'm in, but at the same time, my employers are really good with me with my appointments.

Anyway, I think I've made my mind up to stay, but if there are many more delays with treatment, perhaps I'll change my mind.

Thank you ❤️
