No period - worried about fertility

Hello, I was wondering if someone could help or just give some advice and I’m really struggling to find anything relating to what I’m experiencing. I came off the pill (previously on Cilest but then the last 3 months changed to Lucette) at the end of August 2020, had my withdrawal bleed as usual and since then nothing. My cervical mucus has been constantly the same so no sign I’m even ovulating and I haven’t had a sign of my period coming. I’ve been tested for PCOS and early menopause and my hormones have come back normal. My GP said to wait 6 months and if my period still hasn’t come back then to make another appointment and he’ll give me some medication to ‘induce’ my period. I have no idea what to do as me and my partner are TTC and I really don’t want to wait another 3 months :( I am currently taking fertility smart supplements to hopefully help, I’m just really unsure what my body is doing. I’ve never wanted a period so much in my life haha! Sorry for the long post, but any advice would really help as I’m starting to worry so much about my fertility x

Hi,
I think you might be better posting in the conception forum. For me it's been over five years since I used any kind of birth control so it's a distant memory. You might find people there in a similar situation better able to support you.

Hi Chloe
That sounds super frustrating! I know when I came off the pill (after 20 years on it!) it took me a few cycles to start ovulating. I have read that sometimes it can take some women 6 months to a year for their periods and cycles to come back after coming off contraception. I would be very frustrated having to wait that long too so completely understand you want to be pro-active rather than waiting 3 more months for your GP to do anything. I read a book called 'Period Repair Manual' by Laura Briden. I found it really interesting and offered some good suggestions for my short luteal phase. It could be an option for you while you are waiting.
Good luck with it all x

When I came off the pill my cycles did not resume and in my case the cause was PCOS.

What hormone levels were tested and on which cycle days?. Tests given for hormones on the wrong days can give misleading results.

You need a diagnosis first and foremost. There is something fundamentally wrong here and its been missed here by the GP. This person going forward will probably prescribe provera to stimulate a bleed but it won't help in the long run. What you need is a referral to a subfertility unit as such problems anyway are well outside a GPs general remit.

There is no real evidence to suggest that the pill is responsible for failure to ovulate but what it can do is mask symptoms of any underlying hormonal imbalance like PCOS. This may well be what is happening here.

I have pcos and when I came off the pill I had no period for 14 months.
Doctor kept telling me my bloods were fine and everything was normal.
Unfortunatly I didn't know much and kinda gave up and then they came every 2-3 months, diet and excersise got them to 5-6 weeks.
I still don't know what could have been done at the start but it's not normal to have no period and it's not fair that doctors push that it is.
I hope you get a cycle soon
