Low AMH and TTC

Hi All,

I was just wondering if anyone has low AMH and managed to conceive naturally? I was lucky enough to have my first child with IVF on the NHS. However, I would now like to try for a sibling and can’t really afford IVF privately at the moment. Any success stories with low AMH?

Yes! I had my first via IVF. My AMH was 5.1 and I had just turned 33 at the time. I also went via NHS, and it was emotionally difficult the entire time.

I was on the highest dose of hormones, got 7 eggs, 3 mature, 2 fertilised. 1 stopped growing. The other one is sat chewing her toys for England. I was very defeated early on, and was convinced it wouldn’t work. I had told myself “this is a trial round”. But my husband kept reminding me - it just takes 1! Also, my husband sperm had low motility and a few other bad features.

No sorry but looking at this too as mine was something like 2.5 last year

Yes. My amh was 2.8 when I was 34. I was told to do Ivf ASAP but then I got pregnant naturally anyway. Sadly it was a MC. I then proceeded with the ivf, which by some miracle worked first time despite there only being 2 eggs.

When The ivf baby was 8 months old I thought I had better at least try for a sibling naturally to have any chance at all of getting one. I had zero expectations.

2 weeks later I was staring at a positive pregnancy test. Now have two boys with 16 months between them.

There are studies which have shown that low amh has no impact on natural conception as long as that is your only issue- google it. I would say that it just means that you run out of time/eggs quicker than other people to conceive.

The only other thing to mention is that age is the biggest factor here as it determines egg quality. There’s a big difference between trying at 35 and trying at 42 for example.

Yes - I agree with above posts. I kept being told by doctors at the clinic etc that it’s not the number of eggs but quality of eggs. You’re better off being younger with fewer eggs than older and more eggs which are more likely to be lower quality/won’t fertilise/will become a full term baby (as horrible as that sounds to type). I wish you all the best OP.

Thanks and congratulations! There is some hope then I hear so many misleading things about AMH I don’t know what to believe.

I had my daughter through IVF as I had one high FSH result in 2018 and has been normal since but my AFC remains between 7 and 10. I am currently 32 will be 33 in March and my AMH is 8.6 my daughter is 13 months old now and I really want to give her a sibling soon. I have regular periods although they lighter and shorter now, my lining has been checked and is fine, I ovulate so I struggle to know why its not happening. I keep thinking it must be an egg quality issue? Although as you are both saying the biggest quality factor is age so I just don’t know Confused

Hi @Rosie213 just thought that i would pop in to say that following an op to remove Endometriosis at the start of this year i had my AMH tested and my result was 5.5 pmol (i was 37 yrs old at the time), I also had a AFC scan and they could only detect 4/5 follicles total. We were told we should proceed with IVF straight away if we wanted a child but that due to my age, endo and test results there good chance it would not work. Well, a couple of months after i turned 38 and after i had already started our first IVF cycle (I was on day 6 of the down regulation drugs) i took a test and found out i was pregnant and had conceived naturally! I will be 12 weeks this Friday and had a scan last week - baby is doing really well! Hope this gives you some hope as i spent HOURS on here when i first got my AMH test result back - looking for positive stories. :)
