Working in healthcare and covid vaccine

Any thoughts? I was planning to get the vaccine but now that the gov has said 3 months between treatments I'm in 2 minds. Hoping to start my second cycle of IVF next month. My consultant initially said when it was 1 month between the doses to just not get pregnant in between the 2 doses! Planning to contact my clinic too and see what they say.

Sorry I was also going to ask if anyone else was in the same situation!X

I also work in healthcare and previously said I wasn't taking it because of the advice not to get it if planning to get pregnant soon. We're due to start the process this month and after 5 years, rightly or wrongly, I'm not willing to delay treatment to get the vaccine.
My concern if I was taking it would be them changing the goal posts again. A colleague was confused/irritated by the fact she's had the first one and now they're changing the timeline.
Would be interesting to hear what the clinics are advising now.

Healthcare worker here. We have been told that we should not get the vaccine if we are planning to get pregnant in the next 2 months. Did you say you were having IVF in the next month?

Roo45 · 04/01/2021 18:57

@ohsheglows yes hopefully! Failed cycle in November. I was hoping to try and get both doses in before we started but obviously that won't be happening now.
I will check with my consultant too.
Thanks @pixelflower
I just hope I can avoid people asking me about it at work!

@pixelflower that's my thoughts too I don't want to delay our cycle further because of the vaccine, but then I also worry about getting covid which would delay things too (as well as possibly being quite unwell with covid itself!) I also don't really want to tell people at work if I decide not to have it.

How old are you @Roo45? Just curious cause a couple of people at work have said they're only taking it because they're done having family. I haven't looked into it properly cause looking at the short term but assume there's something out there that made them say that.
I was worried about what people at work would say as we had to say a few weeks ago if we wanted it. No one's actually asked me why not but when we've been discussing it I've said I'm not in a high risk category physically, and I don't usually take the flu jab but I'll keep thinking about it and maybe when it's available to others of my age then I'll take it.

bicyclesandbeyond · 04/01/2021 21:24

New guidance came out last week suggesting that front line NHS staff should now be offered the vaccine if pregnant or TTC with no need to avoid pregnancy after the vaccine. It's up to the individual to weigh up the risks. I think this is pretty reassuring.

Ah thanks @bicyclesandbeyond @pixelflower I am in my early 30's

@Roo45 I should have just said my thought rather than asking your age cause now I'm worried about offending you even though I'm older than you 🤦🤣 If someone is in their 20's I think its safe to say something vague about the future, but I know I've been paranoid for a few years about saying anything incase get any "better get a move on" type comments.

Roo45 · 05/01/2021 14:30

Haha don't worry @pixelflower no offense taken at all!
I know the feeling whenever we talk about holidays everyone says 'oh you'll be wanting the school holidays off in a few years'...if only I could actually plan for that! Even managing to get pregnant seems like a bloody miracle at the moment. I just keep quiet.

HCW here working in PICU but we are also getting covid AICU patients. I discussed it with our clinic and decided to go ahead as our cycle would start as a preparation month at the end of January than stims end of February/March with an elective freeze all to do PGS. I had my first vaccine yesterday as when I booked it they were doing 3 week between doses. They were changing everyone 2nd appointment yesterday but I think I managed to get it for 4 weeks rather than 3 months as I spoke to the pharmacist about my fertility treatment and the fact I turn 41 soon.

So it is a) worth speaking with the people organsing the vaccine at your work to see if anything scan be done with timings.
B) speak with the clinic re timing of cycle.

Good luck.

Roo45 · 10/01/2021 10:14

Thanks @Dojiejo I have asked my love manager who said they will get back to me xx

Hi all. I’m a healthcare worker too working on covid wards. I’m due to start and FET in March. I’ve just spoken to my fertility clinic in Nottingham who have said the previous advice was to wait three months to conceive following the vaccine, but it’s recently changed to say there’s no need to wait. I’ve booked in to have my first dose of the vaccine tomorrow. I’m hoping I’ll be in the position where I won’t be able to have the second dose because I’ll be pregnant by then!

I’m still very conflicted though 😩 my husband is dead against me having the vaccine, but work is very scary at the moment.

pixelflower · 22/01/2021 14:38

Has anyone had any issues with pre-vaccine questions? I was called and asked various questions including if I'm pregnant or planning a pregnancy in the next 3 months. Ended up having a discussion regarding the current guidance and both nurses she asked about it said I'd need to speak to my GP as they hadn't heard updated guidance. Now I'm not sure about it, partly as colleagues are doing the vaccinations and don't want them to know I plan on getting pregnant. Has anyone else had any issues like this?

Roo45 · 22/01/2021 19:20

@pixelflower I think it's easiest just to say no!x

pixelflower · 22/01/2021 19:37

Thanks for the reply @Roo45 . I eventually came to that conclusion about 4 hours too late. Clinic also got a rambling email clarifying if I could get it. Oh well 🤦

JandL2020 · 22/01/2021 22:20

I’m an nhs worker and declined the vaccine via the booking portal. There’s pressure from above to have it and I’ve had to email my manager to say please keep my decision confidential as I’ve not consented to my info being shared etc. It’s also getting awkward people asking but just ended up being honest with them and turns out a few of them been through/going through fertility struggles. Hoping people just stop asking now! Xx

Roo45 · 23/01/2021 18:03

@JandL2020 I know I was worried about being asked too I failed an IVF cycle recently and only my line manager knows about it luckily she's been really supportive. At the end of the day it has to be a personal decision you are comfortable with xx
