Follicle count during mc

Hello,

I asked the gynae consultant to check my ovaries while she scanned me for retained pregnancy tissue during a miscarriage. She said it all looked 'pretty good' and started counting follicles - 7 on one side, 6 on the other... then said 'this is the wrong time to be assessing this though'.

I've since scurried off and googled normal AFC and that seems low. I'm 39.

How would having a miscarriage affect number of follicles? I'm driving myself mad combining this with an FSH of 9.4 a few years ago.

We have a 14m old DD but have had two miscarriages in 5 months since trying for DC number 2.

Any thoughts? Xx

That sounds about right for your age x

Thanks @ivfbeenbusy I suppose quality rather than quantity although while I do seem to get pregnant it's keeping them is tricky... I've had two losses in 5 months Sad

@glowingtwig as the PP said that sounds perfectly normal. At age 40 my FSH was 5.4, AMH 10.4 and AFC was around 8 on one side and 4 or 5 on the other depending on the month 😊

Thank you @SamoyedFan123

My fsh was a bit higher than that last time it was tested... 9.4 but my GP said it wasn't really an issue as I was ovulating and seem to fall pregnant easily (although now 2 mc in a row). I don't like it though and had a massive panic about it two years ago. I've since had one baby.

X

As long as you're still ovulating regularly I don't think FSH is a barrier to fertility. Once it gets up above 20 or so I think you might find ovulation becomes less reliable.
