Fertility clinics London recommendations

Hi all, I’m looking to get a private fertility investigation as I’m having trouble conceiving. Time is ticking so I don’t want to wait for the NHS.
Does anyone have advice on good fertility clinics in London (that are also reasonably priced) where I could get a thorough investigation done?

I suffer from health anxiety, so it’s important to me to go somewhere where I will be treated with sensitivity and care. I looked at London Women’s Fertility clinic as they popped up first on google and they seemed relatively cheap, but then I read some terrible reviews.
I liked the look of create but they don’t seem to be offering fertility investigations at the moment because of covid.
Any advice/ recommendations?

Hi @Bizawit best of luck with it all. I go to ARGC who are the most expensive so probably not the best option!! But I think the best place to look for clinics is the HFEA website. You can compare stats on there too. Have an explore of the different stats as they measure based on different things...your age will be relevant for example. Best of luck xxx

Thanks so much for replying @Janefx40! I’ll take a look at the HFEA website. This world of fertility assistance is a minefield! I had no idea how complex everything was..

Hi @Bizawit - I know you have said you don't want to wait for the NHS but I just wanted to provide some info for you in case you are considering it. I may be quite lucky but the time between having tests with my GP and starting IVF on the NHS in London was under 6 months. I was referred by my GP for additional tests with Kings Fertility in June, I had my first appointment with them in September and just completed my first round of IVF with them in December. Obviously private will be quicker but the wait on the NHS wasn't as bad as I had read on here. Unfortunately it did not work for me first round so i will now be paying to go private but I have decided to stick with Kings as I really liked the staff and the building/location. Could be an option for you if you are based in London? Good luck xx

Hello other @Jane1284 ! Yes I didn't have much of a wait for the NHS either - I was in Barnet then which was Guy's Hospital. We had our first appointment in Feb and started in April I think. It's a couple of years ago now tho. I actually did private first as I was concerned about the wait and was already over 40 so did my NHS cycle second which was a bit unusual! That was the cycle that worked.

Hello @Janefx40 :-) It is interesting that some people seems to be told the wait is many months on the NHS right now while some of us have been seen much quicker. I wonder if it is down to age/condition? I am 36 and I have very low AMH and AFC so perhaps they sped things up due to time not being on my side. Glad to hear your second cycle worked. Hopefully I have the same luck as you xx

If you’re in Camden / Islington you will most likely be referred to UCLH. I was referred in January and still waiting for treatment in December. However might definitely be worth pursuing NHS in tandem with private depending on your CCGs waiting list

Hello,
Sadly Homerton Hospital cancelled my IVF which was starting in Jan due to Tier 4. After waiting so long we are going to go private but as we were NHS until yesterday we don't know where to start. Places i'm considering are Create, Evewell and ARGC can anyone help. I'm 34 and had an operation on my abdomen which has left scar tissue which is the reason we need IVF.

Janefx40 · 30/12/2020 13:58

@IndigoA sorry to hear about your cancelled cycle. I'm at ARGC and am happy to talk about it if you want to PM me. It is very pricey tho and very intense so you may not need such an extreme option. They throw the kitchen sink at it so it's great if you have had multiple failures (and have deep pockets) but not necessarily the right choice for everyone x

IndigoA · 30/12/2020 14:40

@Janefx40 thanks so much for coming back to me. After some research i think ARGC might be a bit intense for me at this stage. I will keep up the search/research. I have an appointment at the Evewell booked but can cancel if anyone has any info on them?

Hi Jane, have you checked whether IVF on the NHS is available in your borough? Some areas dont provide any, for any age. Others only provide say 1 round if over 40, most require a BMI stricter than private. Whilst waiting for NHS treatment/tests, you could pay for some privately as an option.

Don't forget that many larger teaching hospitals that provide NHS IVF, also have a private option. You dont JUST have to use private clinics in Harley st for example, which may cost more. I've had 2 cycles at Guys and found them very good. I had fertility testing done privately abroad, so only really have that to compare to. I personally would prefer to have good, safe treatment, rather than bothering that the waiting room has fresh cut flowers and a nice vase, nicer chairs and carpet etc. You may find private clinics will see you quicker, but I would also prefer the additional back up if soemthing went wrong of a larger hospital. If you do use a private clinic, check whether everything is done onsite, or do you have to go to another clinic/hospital for the egg retrieval/embryo transfer.

Guys have 2 tiers of private. Self funded and consultant led. My understanding, is that the consultant lead option is £1000 more and you see the consultant on most visits. You can also get slightly more flexibility in terms of late evening appointments. I found that you are scanned by a sonographer or nurse, the nurse explains the process, schedule and meds and you only see the consultant for an initial consult anyway. I decided to keep the £1000, and went self funded. I dont feel my care was any less than if I'd spent the extra.

It obviously depends what you need, but in my case, the IVF self funded was £3300, meds £600 and we needed ICSI this round, which was another £900.

Best of luck and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Hi @Elouera

I was wondering which consultant you saw for treatment as I called Guys today to enquire about availability and unfortunately there is a 2 month wait to see a consultant with the self funded option. Whereas it would be a matter of weeks with the Personalised route depending on which consultant to choose.
I’m 42 so need to get cracking with fertility tests especially as I have been waiting for my NHS referral appointment since March & it’s now been cancelled for this month, so don’t want to waste anymore time.
