V low AMH

I'm struck by how few people seem to post on here with v low amh eg around the 1 mark. I have an amh of 1.2 and still hope to conceive (perhaps foolishly but I am suffering secondary infertility). Is there anyone out there with this kind of situation who still hopes to conceive using their own eggs? I'd love to know what advice you've received?

I'm 38, amh of 1.2, follicles counted: 5 and 6 earlier this year on consecutive months. Fsh as yet unknown. Husbands sperm are ok, not huge volume but good concentration and okish morphology.

I've spoken to loads of clinics (privately) because my year has been a bit all over the shop and I was advised to put on weight): 2 respected ones in Greece, Kings College Hospital, Create Wimbledon, an offshoot of Oxford Fertility and most recently the Lister clinic.

Up to date I was told my chances were low but mild ivf was proposed. Latest, at Lister, they said ivf would likely offer little more benefit than IUI and that 3 medicated iuis would likely give me equal chance of an ivf. The consultant also said Create were irresponsible to recommend a 3 cycle freeze all treatment because frosties may not make it through defrosting and with so few embryos it would therefore not make sense.

I'd love to know what others in a similar position have been advised/ concluded / experienced.

Thanks so much

I would take what your consultant said about Create with a pinch of salt - he would have his own agenda about signing you up as a patient and it's not exactly professional to criticise other clinics. Lots of clinics "look down" on Create for only doing mild or natural modified IVF even though the statistics don't lie and their success rates are as good if not better than most other clinics. If you think about it most other clinics use higher dose drug long protocol/short protocol - their whole business model is built around getting the maximum number of eggs out of your body. They are hardly then going to admit that Create - whose ethos is the opposite - fewer follicles equals better quality - are right??? It goes against their entire business model

The % of embryos lost through freezing and thawing is actually very very small as technology has moved on a lot

But maybe I'm biased because I did do a 3 cycle freeze all with Create and am pregnant with twins with 2 more top quality blastocysts frozen for future use.....

Create are well known in the industry for specialising in treating women with low AMH and taking patients other clinics won't treat

Is natural conception an option for you?

Studies have shown that low amh as an issue on its own has no impact on natural conception.

I had an amh of 2.8 age 34. Since then I’ve been pregnant 3 times- including one ivf pregnancy that worked first time with only 2 eggs; and one natural conception that took 1 month”s trying to achieve (was a massive surprise as I had also been given the doom and gloom story about my low amh).

Unfortunately my oh suffers with ED and I think I also have a v short luteal phase so even home insemination isn't feeling hopeful. I hope you managed to end up with the kid you wanted after all that?

@ivfbeenbusy thank you and yes its good to think twice on the basis of your point. So glad you had success. What was your amh?

Hi @Ellsiedodah

I am 40 and have been told I have a very low AHM has well (2). My AFC was 5 back in September, it hasn't been checked since, and FHS is high. My partner is infertile, so we will be using his frozen sperm, should we make it that far in the process.

We have been waiting to start treatment since we were referred in Dec 2019, and are now finally about to begin. We have been told we have a 9% chance of success or less, but still feel like we need to try because we don't want to look back and wonder 'what if'. I was told that I would have a much higher chance with a donor, but neither of us don't want to go down that route.

I am being very realistic about it, mostly as a way of protecting myself I suppose from the heartbreak of it not working when I so desperately want it to. Maybe I should try to think more positively because as I was told by the clinic yesterday "stranger things have happened", but I honestly believe we will put ourselves through hell for the inevitable outcome of it not working for us. Like I said though, we both feel like we have to try.

I was going to go with Create, but then got offered an NHS ICSI funded cycle and so I am going to a clinic that is closer to home. I was very impressed with Create though, and if this round doesn't work and I can face going through it all again, I would consider trying with them as they do specialise on low AMH. Quality over quantity.

Best of luck to you, whatever you decide to do.

@Goldilocks2528 I really feel for you. It's so tough and I think that's exactly it - it's doing what you feel you'd regret not doing. We've been talking about it again today and I think we're going to do 4 or 5 iuis and then review after that. Best of luck... do let me know how you get on if you'd like to x

I am posting in hope of some advice

I have a very low AMH of 0.4 and have been trying for over a year with one miscarriage in march at the 8-week point. I have contacted several clinics abroad as I cant afford UK prices but many recommend donor eggs but I want to try with my own eggs. The reason I feel there is hope is that on Clomid I am producing 1-2 mature follicles.

can anyone recommend a clinic specialising in over 40's with very low AMH. I am interested in a mild ICSI protocol.

Thank you
