AMH of 8 and 9 follicles - what chance have I got of conceiving naturally or should I opt straight for IVF? Late 30s.

No one can really say what your chances are? These 8/9 follicles might be top quality in which case your chance of conceiving is high?

In late thirties I would just do ivf tbh , don’t waste time ( someone who was 38 now 40 ) now with 7 follicles x

Your chances don't just depend on you and your follicles, your partner's sperm would need to be analysed too.
In any case whether or not to go straight to IVF depends if you've been trying at all and on funding. If money is not an issue I'd have IVF after a short period of TTC, just a few months.

I go straight to IVF x

It's a tricky decision isn't it, whether to gamble with nature! My personal opinion would be to get the IVF ball rolling (assuming you've already had tests and know there aren't any other issues). Above 35 the success rate with IVF declines much more rapidly, and once you're over 40 I think it's something like 1-5%.

We went straight to IVF at the age of 31 after a diagnosis of rubbish AMH and AFC for my age (6.7 and 7). Part of our thought process was the desire to have more than 1 child, and the likely need to do IVF again. We thought it best to get going as I didn't want the 'what if we started sooner' thoughts, should it not work out at all.

It's a very individual choice though, and one you need to decide together.

The number of follicles can slightly vary in different cycles but will stay roughly around the same amount, your AMH isn’t great but I’ve heard of ladies being successful with IVF with lower values (2-3). The issue is that your AMH and follicles are going to reduce over time and that means if you decide on IVF in a year or two you will risk getting very low numbers of embryos. If I were in your position I would be thinking about two choices:

  1. IVF if you are ready for a child.
  2. Egg/embryo collection- so freezing either eggs or preferably embryos (they thaw better), which one you go for will depend on your relationship status that you haven’t mentioned.

If you have a good number frozen then you have a safety net. I’ve heard that rates from. natural conception shouldn’t be affected that much by AMH.
