Egg quality and maybe trying IVF again....

Hi. We've already had our NHS round which resulted in two failed transfers. So now we're considering trying again privately.

Both 33, no probs on his side. It's me, stage 3 Endo, frozen pelvis. So I'm looking into making my eggs as good quality as possible so hoping someone can point me in the direction of supplements and as cheap as possible hopefully. I've heard Inositol and Ubiquinol mentioned, does anyone have any experience with these? Or do they really make much difference?

According to the paperwork from my last test, FSH and ovarian reserve are normal for my age, but the ovulation couldn't be confirmed on blood tests. But the docs have always said that they may just have missed it 🤷🏻‍♀️

I do intend to get a second opinion on whether it's worth me having excision surgery before trying IVF again, although I'm fairly sure my consultant would have advised this last time if he thought it would affect the outcome.

Sorry for the ramble, I'm just trying (and struggling) to sort through my thoughts and my post might not really make sense. Hopefully someone can help though 😊

Hi - I’m not sure about endo and recommendations for that but re egg quality a lot of people follow the recommendations in the book It starts with the egg. Ubiquinol, folate, n acetylcysteine among others. I think the recommendations and doses are on the website for the book.

Also consider diet, cutting out sugar has been shown to be beneficial for those undergoing ivf cycles

Good luck

For me the supplants, healthy living, diet, starts with an egg book make zero difference to egg quality. I did 5 rounds of IVF and the only thing which made a difference was changing protocol and reducing the drugs right down

Ivbeenbusy that’s really interesting, how low did you go with your drugs?

I took some notes from a site (fertilityiq) which suggested that 150 - 300iu per day of gonadotropin was optimal.. worries me a little as I’ve been prescribed 375iu with afc of 13!

I do agree quality over quantity of eggs every time.

There is limited data which suggests cutting out sugar/carbs can have a massive effect on live birth rate. Very small studies but worth doing as it’s something cheap and easy-ish to do.

@mowglika

I changed to natural modified IVF so concentrating on 2-7 eggs maximum (compared to 14+ I was getting on short protocol) - my dose was 150ml Bemfola every OTHER day and 20mg of tamoxifen tablets (similar effect to clomid)

mowglika · 15/12/2020 14:29

Sounds like it really worked for you ivbeenbusy, I’m wondering if tamoxifen might be something to try

OP have you considered natural modified or mild ivf with the view to fewer eggs but higher quality? Also have you tried clomid or tamoxifen/letrozole if you’re not sure if you are ovulating or not?

Pinkstars2501 · 15/12/2020 20:59

I've not tried clomid. My consultant didn't think it's would make a difference because my Endo is so bad, but I still ovulate on my own, so not much point.

I'm open to do discussing natural modified/mild IVF when I come to try again. I just know that last time I down regulated and then we stimmed for two weeks(ish) and then I think that's long protocol.

My head was, still is, all over the place because it took 17yrs for an Endo diagnosis and then straight into our NHS IVF round after that so didn't really have time to think on it.

You should get the book It Starts with an Egg. I appreciate some people don't feel it made a difference and I've no idea if it did for me or not. Nonetheless it talks through all the different supplements so if you want to know more about them, it's a good book to read.

Best of luck xxx
