Narrow cervical opening-any experiences?

Just had my first round of IVF ICSI which has unfortunately failed. At transfer I was found to have a narrow cervical opening and it took a while for the embryo to be transferred as they needed to try a few times. I was in considerable pain for 24 hours afterwards and assumed that was why.
The fertility team told me on the day that that wouldn't have been contributing to our fertility problems.
I just wondered if anyone else had anything similar and what worked/was suggested to them? I'm waiting to have a follow up with the consultant who I will ask too but just wondered about others experiences. X

@Giftadama - I was never under the impression that it mattered when the dilation took place. They didn’t time it for any particular time during my cycle. However, I do remember that it was the first day of my period when I had it done, purely coincidental.

Hi, I'm jumping in here also, I know most of you will probably have moved on by now. I had my first embryo transfer in Dec which was awful, pinhead cervix and tilted uterus so it was painful, there was blood and bent catheters and all sorts. Gutted because I only had 1 embryo but it was apparently top grade but didn't stick.
My RE has recommended I have a hysteroscopy before trying again, she is booking me in for a weeks time. She says they will probably look at cervix dilation. Problem is I have no FE so will have to go through all the stims again after. I'm worried this will irritate my cervix and cause it to close again.

Hi @kivt. I think personally I would prefer to have these done as close to transfer as possible, so it might be worthwhile questioning the order. I was terrified when I read that it was possible for the cervix to close again after cervical dilation.

The surgeon who carried out my dilation says it had been very difficult to dilate my cervix but they’d got there in the end. Interestingly, I imagined I would perhaps need to repeat the process for any future transfers but thus turned out not to be the case. I was assured that because I had had a successful pregnancy and vaginal birth that further transfers should be straight forward. This proved to be the case as we had a successful transfer of our last frozen embryo at the end of August. I couldn’t believe how straight forward it was!

Hope this info is useful to you. Feel free to update how you get on or ask any questions!
