Hi, starting injections this weekend. Completely new to ivf and not looking forward to the injections if I'm honest!
Has anyone got any advice regarding this? Any tips would be great Smile

Lots of people say the first one is the worst and then it gets better, which I did find to be the case. My main advice would be to ice the spot for 20 minutes first.

This is almost 100% over-kill for you, but I'm very very very bad with needles (faint, cry, just generally awful) and managed to get a little routine that helped me, so in case this is you too:
-First I would ice
-I'd have my supplies set up in front of me
-Then take a deep breath and breathing out while pushing the needle in and injecting, then take a deep breath breathing out while taking the needle out
-I'd then immediately put a novelty plaster on (totally unnecessary but made me happy!) and have a drink and a strong flavoured sweet like mint or ginger to feel 'grounded' and not faint!

^ I think most people just get on with it, but if you need extra encouragement, this worked for me hah!

Hi, I have honestly found them fine. I sort of quite enjoy them, which is perhaps a bit weird!

Pinch your stomach and hold the needle at a slight angle - a bit higher up than 90 degrees. A suggestion is to look at the needle and make sure the tip, which is angled, is at the top - like at number 12 on a clock. Then push the needle slowly into your stomach, and then push the plunger slowly but steadily. You can slowly release your pinch as you inject. Take care removing the needle as you can scratch yourself on the way out.

Care Fertility have lots of instruction videos on YouTube which I found helpful (even though I'm not with them!). Just search menopur injection teach. Menopur is fine, doesn't hurt Smile as PPs have mentioned, it is just getting the first one out of the way! Good luck!

Thank you for the tips!
Luckily I'm not squeamish with needles or anything I think it's just the whole thought of injecting myself I don't like the idea of, also I've got menopur multi dose so I have to prepare it and mix it myself and convinced myself I'm going mess it up in some way ha!
I'm actually with care so I've looked at the videos a few times, I'm sure I'll be fine once I've done that first one as you say.

I'm only on 150 menopur, this is quite a low dose isn't it?

@elsaesmeralda yes 150 is low so you won't have much liquid going in! I had 450 Confused (low AMH). Don't panic if a bit of the liquid leaks back out of your skin. That happens to me a few times and I was like OMG but the nurse said not to worry, it looks more than it actually is

elsaesmeralda · 18/11/2020 10:21

@TTCIVF I'm worried it's not gonna even stimulate my ovaries!!
Oh god can see me having a big freak out if that happens 🤣

I was on 150 and got 25 eggs- don't worry, they should know what they're doing with hormones and dosage :)

elsaesmeralda · 18/11/2020 11:55

@mayihavesomecakeplease wow that's loads! I hope you don't mind me asking, Was they all mature ? And was you in a lot of pain before and after egg collection?

OP posts:
mayihavesomecakeplease · 18/11/2020 12:08

I was really uncomfortable rather than in pain as such. It definitely took me longer to feel 'normal' afterwards than I expected (we did a freeze all). We had 17 mature. We froze 7 of those and fertilised 10, ending up with 2 frozen embryos.

seven201 · 18/11/2020 15:56

It honestly isn't as bad as you think it will be. I was on 150 for my first round and got 11 eggs (3 transferable embryos from that).

elsaesmeralda · 18/11/2020 17:46

@mayihavesomecakeplease great numbers! We are also doing a freeze all, I have pcos so I know the doc was concerned about the possibility of over stimulating. The reason I ask about the pain is I had terrible ovary pain just on clomid so thinking is it gonna be worse this time with the injections..

@seven201 again good numbers ! I'll be happy if I get that sort of amount, I do have anxiety so tend to overthink everything!

Well, last tablets have been taken so just got to wait for the bleed now, looking forward to getting started now

Just popping back to say first injection done, my partner did it as I'm too much of a wimp! Wasn't too bad to be honest, menopur stings !

mayihavesomecakeplease · 25/11/2020 12:02

Well done :) I hope everything goes well with your treatment!

So myself a dp have had a bit of a disagreement this morning regarding air bubbles! He is doing my injections for me and is getting worried about getting every single air bubble out, I've said from what I've read the air bubbles don't matter as much because the injection is just going into fat, is this right ? So basically if you can't get one last bubble out it doesn't really matter ? Think I'm gona have to start doing them myself now 😩
