Would we be entitled to IVF on NHS?

Hi ladies,

I have a 7 year old from a previous relationship and my partner doesn't have any children. I got diagnosed with unexplained pelvic inflammatory disease last August (the docs tested 5 times for STD's which were all negative so they were stumped. Anyway I had anti biotics and all seemed fine. My partner and I have been trying for 4/5 months now with no luck, I just wondered looking ahead, as my partner doesn't have a child would we be entitled to IVF on the NHS if it came to it? Obviously hoping we will fall naturally before that point but just wondering. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks

No sorry. Check with your CCG but in general you won't get NHS funding if you already have a child.

Unfortunately highly unlikely/ almost impossible to get IVF on the NHS where one partner has a child already - especially when the partner with a child already is a woman. I vaguely remember reading somewhere some trusts would allow it if it was the man who had a child and the woman didn't but given that funding continues to be cut I really wouldn't rely on being eligible for anything.

Also not sure how old you are but lots of trusts also have a cut off of age 35/36 these days with the odd one going to age 39/40

You've not been trying "that long" in infertility terms so under age 35 the expectation is that no investigations are done before 1-2 years of trying

Thanks for replies ladies. I thought that would be the case. I'm 30, hoping it'll be our time soon! Thanks :) x

My area fund 3 cycles of IVF if the woman has a child as long as the partner doesn't have any children (or vice versa)

Having a child might not be a no-no but they’ll expect you to have been trying for two years at 30. Best of luck!

If either of you have known fertility issues they often reduce the 2 years to 6-12 months. Look for your CCGs criteria online if possible

Hi, I have two children with a previous partner and in my area, I am entitled to 1 round of Ivf on the NHS, as my partner does not have any children. I have just been referred for Ivf as hyscoy showed my fallopian tubes are scarred, which they said was probably due to scar tissue from my csection. I think every area is different. I am in Devon.

No. I ‘lost’ my nhs go when I met my new partner as he had 3 kids in 20’s from
Previous partner

Very unfair I thoight as was me with the problem

Wow

Ivf is such a postcode lottery

I think all woman should be allowed one go if have no children

Seem unfair to have 3 even if have a child
