Male infertility and genetic testing

Husband has just had his results from his second sperm analysis and we have found that he has no sperm present in either sample. He has an appointment to get some blood tests to check hormone levels and to do genetic testing.
Has anyone’s husbands had these blood tests and what did they find/ do? Consultant mentioned something about genetic counselling. I’ve done as much googling as I can 😂

Hi my DH had this done. He should be getting Karyotyping, Y-deletion and cystic fibrosis done.

From what I’ve seen Karyotyping is making sure his chromosome profile is normal so it should be 46 XY. Then y-deletion I’m not sure but I think it’s making sure he isn’t missing some deletion of part of the Y chromosome.

Then cystic fibrosis is as if he is a carrier that can be why the sperm isn’t there.

Then all the bloods so checking his testosterone levels.

I would also be getting him a referral to a urologist to make sure there’s no blockage etc.

Hi, my husband also had this, he had the same genetics testing that the previous poster described, which came back fine, however the blood test for hormones showed a raised fsh level of 16 which was the issue. He also had a scan for blockages which did not show any.

Our clinic did not try to fix the problem, instead they suggested microtese (surgical sperm retrieval) along with ICSI which we did, however the sperm was too weak and did not survive the thaw (they froze the sperm before we started ICSI). Since then we have found an amazing urologist, Jonathan Ramsay, who has prescribed my husband clomid (I had no idea men could take this too!) which seems to be slowly improving his hormone levels, with the goal to have another round of ICSI in the future.
Looking back I wish we had spoken to the urologist first as we would have waited until my husbands hormone levels improved before attempting IVF. I remember we were devastated when we were originally told no sperm thinking it meant the end of the road with children but there are so many options out there and so many different treatments now
