Low AMH levels at 36

Has anyone been in the boat? I gave birth to our stillborn daughter in august. We’ve decided to start TTC again. I’m 36, DH is 40. Just had a blood test to check hormone levels of AMH. Came back as 0.94. What’s my chances of actually conceiving naturally? Looking for some positivity....

I’m so so sorry to hear about your stillbirth OP.

I’m not sure if the low amh caused you issues before or not, but it won’t have dropped that much in the last year.

Mine was 2.8 when I was 34. I was given a doom and gloom story to be honest and advised to do ivf.

However I got pregnant straight afterwards, which Ended in miscarriage so I went ahead with the ivf.

The ivf worked (first time) and when the ivf baby was 8 months old we tried again- it took 1 month to get pregnant- I was 36 by this time.

Studies have shown that low amh is no barrier to natural conception if that is your only issue. Age is the biggest factor, as it’s all about trying to get good quality eggs.

Good luck.

Isn’t 2.8 a really good level to have/classed as normal? I’m confused. I’ve been told mine is low/normal at 0.94 so hoping we conceive again naturally. Thanks for your positive story tho. My husband has a daughter from a previous relationship so IVF would be costly for us

There are two different measurements/ p/mol Is used in the uk and 2.8 is rubbish.

You might have been given the American measurement version - which Is different and explains why yours is 0.9- if you translate it into p/mol it will be higher.

JMR13 · 02/11/2020 21:00

I’m struggling to find a conversion? Unless I’m just a bit useless. It’s all so confusing. I’ve went off the measurements that say between 1 and 4 Is normal 🤷‍♀️

So it turns out mine was measured in pmol/l so my value is 0.94, I’m devastated. Surprised we ever managed to conceive our daughter at all

Hi, I’m really sorry to hear of your daughters passing. During our fertility tests I asked our consultant about AMH and she said they don’t test it as it’s not a marker of fertility as such. It’s more part of the treatment of IVF so they know how much stimulation drugs you will need. Just because you have low AMH doesn’t mean you have low quality eggs. You must have good quality if you were able to conceive your daughter.

JMR13 · 03/11/2020 13:34

Thank you, that helps keep my positive. Maybe I’m just thinking I’m 36 so eggs won’t be great anyway. Our daughter was perfect, I hope we can conceive a sibling that’s just as perfect. Any hope helps

I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope you manage to have another baby you get to cuddle and take home and see grow up.

I would investigate IVF options if I were you as the AMH is a bit concerning. Although over 35 they would generally recommend only 6 months of trying before escalating fertility interventions regardless.

All my best.

JMR13 · 04/11/2020 02:25

Anyone had the same level? 😔

Ilikeviognier · 04/11/2020 17:02

OP- don’t panic. As I said, I was 36 when I got pregnant within 1 month of trying. I have no idea what my amh was by that stage- it was 2.8 around 20 months before that so it must have dropped!

JMR13 · 04/11/2020 17:34

Thank you. It’s so nice people are so positive. I’m hoping we created a baby before it’ll happen again. Thank you 🥰

Were you given an AFC count? Sometimes that is a better indicator if fertility.

Feelinglost1919 · 05/11/2020 11:55

Hi. My levels are 70..:( it’s too high which means PCOS
I’m 34 yo
No words of wisdom here, just handholding x

JMR13 · 05/11/2020 12:56

@Sixpencefaux no not had that checked. The consultant doesn’t seem massively concerned to be honest and said that it doesn’t mean I can’t fall pregnant naturally. Who knows. It’s all so confusing.

@Feelinglost1919 don’t worry about PCOS, my friend has that and conceived no problems. Don’t let a few cysts stop you. We’ll just need to keep a positive frame of mind

Mine was 0.8 when I did my 2nd round of ivf, it worked. So sorry to hear about your daughter xx

JMR13 · 06/11/2020 23:23

0.8pmol? Wow that’s really positive. Thank you 🙏

Read this study OP

Ilikeviognier · 07/11/2020 08:22

Just to add- I wish this report had been available when i got my amh results!

JMR13 · 07/11/2020 09:50

@Ilikeviognier yeah my consultant actually said it means nothing alone. Although my results are lower than the ones used in this survey, still it’s a reassuring study non the less

Ilikeviognier · 07/11/2020 11:10

Exactly OP-

And even if you did ivf - it might work. It worked for me with those amh results- first time.
