I've been ttc for 4 years and had 2 losses. It's a pretty dark place at the moment with a covid baby boom.

We are under consultant for both infertility (took ages to conceive) and recurrent loss. I am 39.

Bloodwork ok ultrasound ok and SA OK and hsg on this week that was also ok. I have been temping and have a short luteal phase.

I am thinking clomid and metformin? Can anyone help with what I should ask as the next appointment. Thank you.

I'm sorry for your losses ❤️ my experience was very similar - took ages to concieve and then had 2 losses. I had a scan, hsg and hysterscopy and then my consultant referred us straight to ivf (age 36), I asked about clomid and he said no. We were quite shocked that there was nothing in between, I do ovulate on my own.

I've spoken to others at the hospital I was at and they were younger, did naturally ovulate and they were prescribed clomid to try. So I came to the conclusion that thru decide on age. I think different areas do things differently though. When is your next appointment?

Thank you for replying. Sort you had to go though a very similar story. I'm quite shocked at that - I really thought there would be a few stages to go through. I will brace myself to hear we will have a referral to ivf.

Did you have your ivf? If you did I hope it all went I'm forty so a bit scared it won't work.

Did he give a reason for no clomid?

Sorry our next apt is 4 November 12 months after our first appointment following our second loss.

When we questioned straight to ivf the doctor said its that or continue to ttc on your own @cherrypiepie he did say we could self fund iui but we looked into it and decided against it.

My appointment was in January and I actually conceived again the following month but it was an early loss, then covid happened and our ccg moved us to a private provider and I was due to start in September but concieved after my baseline scan. Sadly I had another missed miscarriage earlier this month. I'm going to see a private recurrent miscarriage specialist - the same day as your follow up! We have been told we can still use the ivf funding despite everything, so we might do this in the new year. Not entirely sure we need it, given my diagnosis is officially unexplained infertility...

Good luck at your appointment, let me know how you get on. It might be different for you, but good to be prepared x

I spoke to a consultant and asked about clomid, even though I already ovulate. Her response was that years ago clomid was handed out like smarties. However research has shown that it thins the lining of the uterus, so for people who already ovulate it's not worth that risk.

cherrypiepie · 05/11/2020 21:54

@VenusStarr so I had my appt yesterday and same as you referred to ivf although different to you I have to lose a bit of weight first. Not too much though so hopefully by January/feb

Quite emotional. Thanks for preparing me. It was a phone consult and the line was terrible which made it really awkward. Shame they can't do WiFi calling would be much better.

She said to take vitamin d and folic acid. And keep trying although it gets a bit wearing sometimes.

I'm so drained of it all I am ready to throw the towel in!

Hi @cherrypiepie I hope you're not waiting too long. I'm glad me sharing my experience helped.

I've been put on aspirin and to take pregnancy vitamins plus omega 3 and extra vitamin D, but we can't ttc until I've got my blood test results which is in 2 weeks.

It's worth asking about what additional treatment they'll give you due to your history. My ivf clinic weren't going to do anything different to the standard protocol, but some do use steroids and aspirin. X

willithappen · 08/11/2020 15:01

I was also referred straight for IVF due to the length of time we had been ttc (roughly five years no contraception). I wasn't offered clomid or IUI or anything

cherrypiepie · 09/11/2020 12:50

Thank you @VenusStarr and @willithappen

I have also been prescribed progesterone and aspiring I I do conceive.

I started taking aspirin "just in case" but I went black and blue with bruises!

I already have a new dark bruise on my hip @cherrypiepie no idea how I got it!!

I took cyclogest in my last pregnancy 400mg x2 and I definitely think that helped implantation, my lady baby measured perfectly for my dates, whereas all my others had been smaller / behind.

Hopefully you're not waiting too long to get started :)
