No sperm produced on egg collection day

Hello ladies, I hope I could have your opinion. We had egg collection this week and unfortunately, my partner failed to produce his sample (stress). We ended up freezing eggs, which obviously comes with extra risks, not to mention costs and yet more emotional rollercoaster. A friend of mine said that her clinic took a sample from the partner and freezed it, just as a back up plan in case a sample could not be produced on the day of egg collection. We were never told this was an option by our clinic. I now wonder whether freezing samples is a standard procedures or do you need to specifically ask for it? I am beating myself on the head, as I feel it is my fault as should have done more research but yet, it is the clinic who meant to guide us to the best results possible. Do they mess up or is it just our bad luck? I would be interested to hear your experiences, though I appreciate this is an unusual scenario.

I don't think it is something routinely offered but is something you could ask to do? So sorry you are in this situation, it must be extremely stressful and emotional for you both. Sounds like providing a sample and freezing it at a time when there is less pressure might be a good idea. Wishing you luck 👍🤞

Thank you, that's helpful. There is so much to learn about this process...

I'm sorry to hear that. Freezing it beforehand isn't routine but it is an option. They haven't messed up by not discussing it as it wouldn't routinely be offered upfront. My husbands had to be frozen as he works offshore for months at a time, so I could get on with treatment without him being home. Although frozen eggs are a little bit more risky, clinics have come a long way now. Most clinics freeze donor eggs so they will have a lot of experience of handling frozen eggs and the thawing process. Please try not to worry, you still have a good chance

Like said it's always an option but they usually only suggest it if you disclose a reason you may need to do it, severe MFI, partners work schedule, possible 'stage fright' etc, for £200 (ish) it's worth it to take the pressure off, although if you will be thawing eggs he may be able to attempt a fresh sample and if he does they can thaw the eggs. If you do another fresh I would defo do it for back up
