Hello everyone
I've spent years going through threads on here looking for answers but this is my first post. My husband and I (he is 34 and I am 37) have been trying to conceive for four years. Neither of us have ever had a pregnancy.

All very recent results from going to private clinic were great- my AMH is above normal, his sperm are strong, scan showed healthy and normal womb etc. Couple of weeks ago had the HSG xray which showed no blockages (it was slightly painful so not sure if linked to my extremely tilted uterus?). We have another appointment with our private doc next month to discuss next steps (given up on NHS completely after years of being fobbed off, within a few months of paying privately we have had all these results).

Anyway we were told by private doc there is increased chances of pregnancy after the HSG and to keep our fingers crossed. We have regular sex, track ovulation, take folic acid and vitamin d daily. Is there anything else you could suggest... even if it's a book to read? We don't smoke and are of healthy weight. Any foods I should eat or avoid? Thank you all so much. If the next couple of months don't end up in natural pregnancy we are going to be recommended to go down ivf route due to unexplained fertility (and my age) even though all results have been outstanding Shock xxx

@MotherOfShihTzus they were prescribed. If you are severely anaemic as I was the over the counter stuff won’t touch the sides. Personally I wouldn’t take iron without diagnosed anaemia as there could be lots of reasons for light periods. (Also the side effects can be unpleasant.)

Hi Starry - we were successful with our first fresh IVF 2 yrs back, although not our recent FET. Waiting on another FET outcome which is why I'm on the board. Still Unexplained.

If you have had significant anaemia for years you have a very treatable potential reason.

@indub thank you for your positive message. You've made me smile. I have my fingers crossed for you.

I emailed my doc as receptionist seems to not want to relay full information. (I had my results over the phone from receptionist who said 'severely anaemic' and to buy my own iron supplements! I said I was still really unwell and needed an appt so she said so would ask doc if they would prescribe something. So I haven't actually seen a doc about this yet. They have now prescribed ferrous funerate for 3 to 4 months. )

Email from Doc said I had a coeliac test in 2015 which was negative so no need for another . Normal levels of iron is 15 to 300. Mine is 25. They want me to reach around 70.

Xxx

Hi @StarryHannah I would also look at things like a DNA fragmentation test. Unexplained just means they don’t know what is wrong not that nothing is wrong. My friends were unexplained so went for ivf and created lots of embryos so that ruled out issues there but now she needs to see if there is an implantation issue that is causing her problems by transferring the embryos.

At your age I would honestly go for IVF instead of wasting more time. Tests can be unreliable. For me we were told that all my tests were fine (AMH, AFC, day 2 and day 21 tests, ultrasound etc) and my DH was the issue. 3 rounds of IVF later they are now saying my reality is not reflected in AMH and ifs just an indicator and they now think I have egg quality issues from my response to IVF. It’s only by doing IVF that these kind of problems come to light.

@Likeafriendivealwaysknown Thank you. We have made plans with the clinic to call them at the end of December to book us in for ivf in March/ April time xx
