Inadequate smear & IVF - help

Hi, im meant to be starting IVF in 4 weeks but my cervical smear test just came back as 'inadequate' meaning it was inconclusive, they weren't able to get enough cells or it was disrupted in some way and I need to repeat it. But they can't repeat it for 3 months because the surface has to grow back. So.... my choice is to delay the IVF to have the smear, or just to go ahead with IVF and have the smear once I have the baby (if successful) or after ivf if its not successful. I'm worried about delaying ivf because I have a ovarian cyst growing that will eventually need surgery, but also worried about waiting for another smear for what would be 10 months if I do get pregnant. Has anyone any experience of this? I feel so stuck and have no idea what to do

How old are you? And what's your AMH? If you have time on your side then I'd delay the IVF. Alternatively you can get private smears that give you a result in 2-3 days. I did this in June. I live in London and this is where I went: www.londondoctorsclinic.co.uk/ It cost about 150 quid but worth it I reckon.

I didn’t go for a smear while doing ivf even tho it was due I waited until I had baby then had smear 3 month after birth

Thank you @jx0x0 id definitely go private to get it done fast but they say the surface of the cervix needs to grow back and it takes 3 months. Ive got a cyst growing at the same time and within 3 months it might be the size that needs surgery again and that would delay ivf for another year... and I've already been trying for 3 years... so I think im going to wait and do the smear after ivf. Chances are it's fine - apparently its really common for them to come back inconclusive if they don't get enough cells on the swab etc.

Thank you both for replying. Really appreciate it. X
