Long/short protocol

Anyone got any experience of both? Awaiting ICSI hopefully soon my AMH is slightly below average but apparently on my scan I have a good follicle count so the consultant said they weren't worried about my AMH after seeing my scan. Consultant has recommended long protocol with menopur. Doing research lots of people seem to be leaning towards mild IVF in places such as create, I must admit the idea of less drugs and quicker start time to IVF definitely appeal but I've also heard this can yield less eggs, but then a counterargument is the eggs are better quality?
I don't know anyone close who's been through IVF and don't really know who else I can ask about people's experiences X

Hi! We're hopefully starting Icsi soon too. I have pcos though so think I'll be on the short protocol! Just waiting for my amh results to come back. My afc was 22 in total. I've no advice for the differences between the protocols but watching with interest 👍🏻

Hi
I’ve done both protocols

Long first time and second short protocol
Hate long protocol it takes forever and injecting is a lot longer
Loved short protocol it’s only injecting for about 9 days or something and didn’t get bad headaches like I did with long protocol
don’t think you get more eggs with long than short as I only got 5 eggs with both protocols

Long protocol I miscarriage at 10weeks
Short protocol I had a baby girl she’s 14 month old x

I've done both types - first a short protocol mild cycle with Create, then a long protocol.

I had the same thinking as you - my AMH was a bit below average (but not officially 'low') so thought I'd try mild to get few but good quality eggs, but this was a disaster for me - none of the eggs were mature so nothing could fertilise. So then changed to long protocol, they can have much more control over your cycle and hormones that way. That worked much better for me (still no BFP, but got mostly mature eggs and fertilised the time so much more like a normal cycle).

However for some people short protocol works great - it's entirely dependent on individual circumstances, but there's certainly no guarantee you will get high quality eggs from it.

If you are being recommended long protocol though there would be a reason for that - I'd definitely go with the dr's recommendation, at least for your first cycle.

Thanks everyone! I guess it's hard knowing what will work but there's no way of knowing until you try it I guess!
Good luck to all XX

Hi @Roo45 i have tried both long and short protocol and ended up having similar effect i. e. OHSS and too many eggs causing freeze all. I am PCO so my clinic wanted to see if my respond any different to a short cycle with lesser eggs. My clinic thinks that it depends on individuals as there are ppl like me who respond the same way irrespective of cycle type. I guess the only option is to go with doctor's advise and leave it with god.

After all of that we ended up with 11 eggs, 7 suitable for injection 5 fertilised but only 2 poor quality embryos by day 5 that didn't take on our first cycle.
Consultant has now recommended changing to short protocol with higher dose stims to hopefully get a higher percentage of fertilised eggs.
This whole process has taught me how you can't predict anything in IVF!
