32, Low AMH and low sperm count...do we just give up before we start

So always knew my husband would have low sperm count due to his cancer. we've managed to get his count up to 200k but with a lot of abnormalities. Been told IVF is still an option with ICSI though and waiting for an appointment with a specialist.

Just have my AMH test done and the results is 5.8 which is low fertility. Kind of shocking as my family famously breed like bunnies.

I don't know if its even worth it going through all this or do we just give up before we start and register to adopt.

Hi, to try and give you some reassure, I’m 33 and my AMH wasn’t much higher at 7.8. AMH gives you an idea of reserve and how many eggs you’d get so IVF but it doesn’t really give you any info on quality. You could have really good quality eggs just not as many as the next person. That’s my understanding of it anyway.

With ICSI I’m guessing as long as they can find a few good sperms to fertilise the eggs, they don’t need the rest.

I got 12 eggs at collection and 6 were good enough by day 5 and I had/have a low AMH. Partners sperm was on the lower side too but they got enough for ICSI.

Any good clinic will give you a realistic impression of your chances. I felt much more informed after our first consultation.

Wishing you all the best xx

Also my amh was 2.8 age 34, but despite only getting 2 eggs during ivf, it worked anyway (first try).

Quality of eggs is much much more important Than quantity.
