hello im 50 years old, asian, and very healthy, and have been trying to conveice for a few years now

Have recently gone to a fertility specialist, we had hormones taken which were all suprisingly great and looked hopeful for natural birth, we then tried for an hsg test to put dye in the tubes to see if they are blocked and the doc was unable to get the dye inside? we had follow up but the specialist had no idea why it didnt go in and pretty much said keep trying naturally

we then went for a second opinion today and the fertility specialist said strait up theres no way it will happen without donor eggs

a few questions

  1. is it possible to give birth at age 50 without donor eggs ?
  1. is there a way to check your eggs and theyre health/strength etc?
  1. why wouldnt dye go in during hsg test?
  1. would a treatment of hormones such as clomid or anything helpful in this predicament? (fertility specialist today said no as its all due to age/ and old eggs )

What was the first clinic? So we can avoid them!
There might be a miniscule chance that some 50 year old women will get pregnant but it would probably make the news it's so rare!

I honestly think not many if any clinics in the UK will treat women over 50. I think your only option would be to seek donor egg ivf treatment abroad, somewhere they are more relaxed with the inclusion criteria

@sasikan I had the same problem with the HSG and my consultant said it could have been a number of things that caused it including a muscle spasm on the day which is fairly common. All looked fine on my scan so they will perform a mock embryo transfer for me before I start treatment to make sure it's not likely to go wrong on the day.

I agree with the other posters, regardless of how healthy you are and how good everything looks, the eggs will be full of chromosomal issues. The uterus and mind may be willing, but the eggs aren't!

Definitely donor eggs is your only option here if you want to carry your own child.

You are wasting time exploring own egg options.

I think it's morally and ethically wrong to consider getting pregnant over 50 years old whether with your own eggs or someone else's. I can't imagine any donor would be happy to know there eggs were being used that way. And there is no way a clinic in good conscience should be supporting that. They are just looking to take your money

I’m sorry OP but it is very very rare to get pregnant at 50. Most people are going through the menopause by then and even if you aren’t, your eggs will be pretty much 100 percent abnormal.

Also- there is no test to test egg health apart from your age. The older you are, the worse their health will be. Your actual health in general has nothing to do with it. Sorry.
