Embryo transfer 'when things go wrong'

Hi everyone

So this morning I had prepped myself for embryo transfer. They were thawing a 5AB hatching blast. Around 10am I got the dreaded call and was told it didn't survive. I was devastated. They then said they would go onto thaw the next best one which was 5CC.

I was fully expecting to get a call saying it didn't survive and those two hours were awful. Surprisingly, it survived and they managed to do the transfer (which I was so grateful for).

Does anyone know why a 5AB wouldn't survive and why a lower grade embryo would?

And why do embryos who can survive freezing, can't survive the thaw?

Thanks all

Also, I feel so sad that my top quality blast didn't make it and now I have lost all hope with 5CC :(

Please don't be disheartened that you've had the 5CC transferred and not the 5AB you were expecting. The 5CC must be stronger as it survived the thaw, it's gone through a lot to survive that so please think of that as some hope. Also I wouldn't get hung up on it being CC, there's a likelihood it would have been a different grade if a different consultant/clinic was looking at it. The most important thing is that you've got a strong one nicely tucked away now. I wish you so much luck over the coming days for implantation

@ivfjourney5 thank you so much for your kind words. Made me tear up, I've had such an emotional rollercoaster of a day.

I will send all my positive thoughts to this little baby who you're absolutely right, survived the thaw. I'll pray so hard he/she implants!!

There’s a thread somewhere where another lady just had a BFP with a 2CC embryo 😊 Try not to get too worried about gradings, it’s only a very crude way to look at embryo quality. Most important thing is that it survived the thaw. Good luck 🍀

@Lemongrass1 Thanks for the good luck wishes. It is so lovely to hear of other success stories especially the 2CC! I know its hopeless googling as it won't change whatever is going to happen, but it does sound like embryo grading is just from what it looks like outside, not what's going on inside. I will keep this thread updated and try to hold off testing early!!

Hello
Just want to say stay positive, these things happen.. I wouldn’t (and never have in my 2 cycles) even thought about grades... an hatching blast can be a BFN.. but the lower quality end up in a baby.. that’s life. Works in misterious ways.. and it happens a lot.. good luck x

@shazzz1xx thanks for the encouragement :) Can I ask, did your clinic share grades with you?

Just to update incase anyone else goes through something similar. I emailed the embryology team at my clinic. They said that the 5AB didn't survive the thawing technique because of poor cell membrane quality. This is something they can't work out until the embryo fails. Really unexpected for a high quality embryo.

So does anyone know if i had the transfer yesterday, am I 1dp5dt today or 2dp5dt?

Also, do hatching blasts implant quicker? Does that matter if its from a FET? I need to stop googling Confused
