Injecting menopur issues - help!!

Hi all

Day 2 of Stims. Yesterday when trying to prime the needle and get that one drop of liquid on top of the needle I know there’s no air a jet of menopur squirted out. Just injected it but the same happened again today and now I’m worried I’m losing too much of it. I’ve been moving the plunger as slowly as I can but it just squirts out.

Do I need to ring the clinic to see if I’ve lost too much?

Should I just leave the little air bubbles in and not prime needle or is that dangerous?

So stressful Sad

Hi @Exilecardigan I had exactly the same panic when I was on menopur!! I asked my clinic about it as I shared all of your worries and they weren’t concerned at all - and my treatment went well so there didn’t seem to be any issues.

But if I were you I’d still give your clinic a call just for the peace of mind but try not to worry too much as I’m sure it will all be fine.

I think you should still try and get rid of the air bubbles though - i normally just flick the side of the syringe a couple of times. I have no idea what would happen if you left the bubbles but it’s always something the nurses at my clinic stress, so I figure it must be important.

Hope all goes well for you xx

I have used two types of Menopur, one which comes with powder and individual glass vials of liquid and is kept at room temperature, and one which comes as 600 or 1200 units that you mix at the beginning and keep in the fridge.
The first one I think is more complicated regarding the air bubbles, but the needles that come with the second type are a bitch to use!

After you've done an injection maybe you can put some water in the syringe and practise your technique for getting rid of air bubbles. Good luck!

@Exilecardigan I had the same thing but the clinic weren't worried - they said it looks more than it actually is. Also don't worry if a bit leaks back out of your skin. Good luck with your cycle!

Vet nurse here 🙋‍♀️😂😂 I always teach people to draw back first on the syringe before trying to prime the needle - this way you end up creating one large bubble that collects all the little ones together and then you slowly push all the air out. Also don't hold the syringe like you're about to inject it when you're expelling the air - sit the syringe in the palm of your hand as though someone had just handed it to you and hold the barrel with your fingertips, then sort of squeeze your hand "as though you're wringing out a cloth" (I was taught) and you'll slowly push the plunger up with the fleshy base of your hand - I'll try to find a photo but try with some water or something first! This way you have greater control with how fast you're pushing the plunger.

I wa always told air bubble don’t matter as your not injecting into a vein.. it’s only going on muscle x

Air bubbles in subcutaneous or intramuscular injections don't cause harm so long as they are small. Only venous and arterial injections become dangerous with air and your 100% not injecting intravenously. The chances of you hitting and staying in a vein are slim to non in your stomach. I wouldnt worry too much about the air

Thanks all for the reassurance. I’ll try some of the tips here before tonight’s! Thank you all for the replies - it’s such an anxious time in general without drama over the injections too!
