Anyone have PCO but not PCOS?

Hi everyone

I've been told I have polycystic ovaries but NOT PCOS. My AFC showed 28 follicles on the right and 20 on the left. Got my consultation tomorrow. The nurse was positive about the scan and said we should get eggs but mentioned risk of OHSS. Just wondered if anyone has any insight into PCO and that many follicles on AFC scan?! Plus what it means for treatment and success rates? TIA

Hi OP I was told I had PCO during my IVF cycle in 2017. I had around 50 follicles in total. I was put on metformin and cabergoline, although I still ended up with a very mild dose of OHSS. Thankfully I didn’t have to do a freeze-all. At egg retrieval many of my follicles turned out to be empty, and I ended up with only 8 embryos after all. The best one was put back in on day 2, and now I have my 2 year old son. I’ll be starting IVF for number 2 soon. Just thought I’d share my story with you to show that a successful cycle is very possible!

Thanks you so much for sharing @SpanielSprint - it's so nice to hear positive stories as I worry so much about whether the IVF is going to work and whether I'm going to get ill from OHSS.

@JandL2020 how did it go today? Sending sticky vibes to you.

@MF1981 hope you had a lovely holiday. I’m currently 5 weeks,1 day pregnant. It’s very early days obviously. When I first got BFP I wasn’t feeling well at all and developed mild (did not feel mild at the time!) OHSS - really thought I would have to go to hospital but somehow got through it. Bloating/sickness has now gone and I feel almost back to pre ivf normal. Viability scan next week absolutely petrified xx

@JandL2020 that's great news! I hope it continues to be positive for you and I'm glad the OHSS symptoms have eased for you. I'm genuinely worried about it happening to me...

@MF1981 apparently what I was experiencing was mild OHSS exacerbated by implantation. I had bad cramps, night sweats, insomnia because of the pain, and eventually vomiting. I was very worried to be honest - called the on call nurse a few times! But was just told it was normal and most likely due to the fact I was pregnant (didn’t know at the time I was). It was short term pain - but the bloating lasted a while (probably a week or so). I would have a freeze all with my next cycle and go for FET. Not sure I could go through a fresh cycle again xx

@JandL2020 wow that sounds like an awful experience - sorry you went through that. I think I'm allowed freeze all in my package through Access if it's due to medical reasons so they may do that if it's looking dodge. I guess we just have to keep our eyes on the prize as much as we can.

I have PCO but not S. Did a freeze-all at end of August and waiting to hopefully do FET next month. Had around 32 follicles at baseline scan which increased to 40+ during stimulation (not all ended up an appropriate size by trigger). Ended up with 21 eggs/19 mature/14 fertilised/9 blastocysts. This was on low dose stimulation - FSH but no LH. There’s some research which suggests lower dose stimulation can lead to higher quality eggs but it’s not conclusive.

I have a history of recurrent miscarriage and ectopic so although we have very good results so far it still seems a long way from getting to a successful pregnancy!
